Re: Squad Watch 2022/23

Believe the following is the actual current 25 man squad that the FL say Reading have and shows the club currently have no free spaces which fits in with what the club say. If the club want to bring anyone in this month then first at least 1 from the list below has to depart either permanently or on...

Re: Ex Players

A week late I know but Charlie Hurley was 86 last Tuesday. Be wonderful if it was possible to get an interview with him and his time managing the club, after all he got the club it’s first promotion in 50 years and was the only league manager who could get some sort of control on Robin Friday. Inci...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Not the best of games. Coniah the absolute standout with some cracking saves. Craig decent in midfield, Abrefa good. Defensively we looked like a bunch of strangers, not impressed at all. Forwards strolled around, did odds and ends. Nothing there to trouble the first team. Pretty much this. Craig c...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

John Clarke looked horrific. One of the worst displays I've seen in a long time (probably since van den Berg) First half poor - second half was decent Nice to hear Ince praising Camara. Hoepfully will involve him now Agreed. Clarke and G-W both played out of position first half and it showed. They ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (h)

Isn’t John Clarke a left back? Would be a big deal to give him his professional debut out of position. Is he ahead of Dorsett? We were told when he joined that he was signed as a left back for the U21s / 23s. I queried at the time what that meant for Samuels. (Still have no idea what is happening w...

Much as I am in favour of the new structure, I hope we can afford all these appointments. Do they count towards FFP, does anyone know?

NathStPaul Michael Craig and John Clarke join U23s

Craig sounds like a good signing from what others have said. Reserve judgement on Clarke of course but I hope that his signing doesn't mean that they are unconvinced by Samuels.

Re: Tom Ince - Confirmed

Whilst I am very pleased to have him here, I hope we have kept to a tight wage structure and not pushed the boat out for him. If we have paid him what he was (allegedly) previously on, we could find that most of our budget is used up, - especially with Moore still here.

Re: When we had wingers….

Ark Royal Going back a while, but Tommy Jenkins for me. Glen Little is also an absolute must.

This is the right answer, for anyone old enough to remember Tom Jenkins. Jenkins and Little for me.

Royals and Racers
Broxroyal I only saw a bit of the game. Who is our number 10?

Osorio- the small curly haired lad

Thanks. From the bits I saw, he seemed to have something about him.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Fulham 0 Reading 1 30 mins Bristow- took a corner and it went straight in. Out of interest when was the last time Reading’s first team scored direct from a corner? Or is it something the club has never done? Bruce Stuckey, Boxing Day 1975, away to Brentford. 90th minute, saved the game for us at 2-...

Re: Time to drop Rafael?

If Rafael drops another clanger or two tonight that lead to goal(s) then it may do him good to miss a couple of games and work on the areas that are of concern - Southwood gets a few games to show he is ready to be #1 and if he takes it great, if not then Rafael comes back in with a hopefully clear...

Re: Rumour - Rob Dickie

Stacey was in the process of evolving into a right back when he left, he wasn’t playing on the wing but was no where ready to be a starting full back. I believe he also chose to leave, turning down a contract to stay because he knew he needed to get games and wouldn’t be a starter for us. This isn'...

Yes, as it was half a century ago, I can't remember much about the game except it was a massive crowd, probably the highest attendance I was in at Elm Park and The Biscuitmen did well and gave the Mighty U's a bit of a fright. It was the only time I saw Denis Law, Bobby Charlton etc. "in the f...

Re: Wigan in Administration

They`ve not conceded a goal in seven games and top of the form table so can see them getting out of this. ...which is possibly why they've done it. Stay up, and wipe out a lot of debt in one move. It's a gamble, but possibly one worth taking. This. They have a fighting chance of avoiding relegation...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Couldn't disagree more. I know he made an arse of himself sometimes but he scored some good goals too. 40 goals in 86 league games says he was no way the worst ever Reading player. As a callow youth in the mid 80's, without really seeing him play, I thought his goals per game ratio marked him out a...

There were players in Div 4 in the 1970s you wouldn't believe. Martin James, Hugh Cheetham, Mick Hollis, Malcolm Swain as mentioned … we're talking sub Evers, Brayson, Kromheer. But each of us to our own eras for our choices. This. A toss up between Martin James and Malcolm Swain for the absolute w...
