Re: Season 2018/2019

Once there's been the in's and out's. Be clearer to see who has strengthened. Early closure of the transfer window is a welcome change. At least no last minute loss of players.

Elphick is already an outcast. I reckon the man himself wants out.

Impressive that a 36 year old made 40 appearances last season. Better than many of our players. No suspensions or red cards either.

You don't make someone Captain of the Republic of Ireland Team without having certain qualities.

Last year far too often. We looked totally bereft of fight.

Re: CONFIMRED - John O’shea signs for Reading

I am not fond of the O'Shea signing, I have never really rated him but I can understand why he has signed him. He may not even play much, but if he see's him as a leader in the group then that has to be good on and off the pitch because the tone is set on the training pitch. If that's right it gets...

Re: CONFIMRED - John O’shea signs for Reading

So, we have signed 3 solid proven pro's, 2 of them captain's. All 3 are/have been. Elphick would make 4 if he signs. Looks more and more like a Coppell squad. Though now there's a good crop of youngsters to nuture. The off the field influence is equally important. Clement does seem to be going to b...

Re: CONFIMRED - John O’shea signs for Reading

I would rather we still had Jake Cooper and would play him ahead of O’Shea every day of the week. Stam let Cooper go. We are where we are. Another free transfer. More leadership within the club. Clement has clearly identified real issues within the squad. Something that cannot be rectified within o...

Re: Building for next season

So first team now looking something like this: Mannone Yiadom, Ilori, Moore, Obita Bacuna, Meyler, Kelly Aluko, Bodvarsson, Barrow Bin Aluko for an actual footballer and it's starting to look a bit better, with a lot more backbone. Lacks creativity for me. Swift for Kelly . Front line didn't work l...

The away game at Villa. When we won 3-1. Front line of Grabban , Popa and Mendes. Only time that the front 3 under Stam linked up and played as a unit. Between them had pace and movement. A joy to watch.

Re: Building for next season

Just we were attacked down the flanks quite a bit this season and everything I know and have seen about Gunter (not just this season) points to him being completely unsuitable to playing as a CB whatever the team shape is. Totally agree. There was next to no defensive cover (tracking back) for the ...

Re: CONFIMRED - Andy Yiadom

Another thought - this does mean we could revive the 'wing-back' idea. I guess that both Obita and Yiadom would be better suited to a more free-flowing, attacking role. But then I hear that Clement isn't keen on that style. Something like --------------------------------Manone ---------------------...

Re: RUMOUR - Andy Yiadom

Great! Happy days! I'm no fan of Gunter but a big problem could have been the lack of competition for his starting spot. Hopefully this changes that. Perhaps there's interest in Gunter already. Which has prompted the quick deal. Perhaps. Or more likely they have been pushing at this one to beat oth...

Re: Building for next season

The benefit of ifollow over attending a game is you have instant replay at your finger tips. Which I used to re-watch the many goals we conceded this season. The benefit of being at the game is that you have a much bigger picture than that on the screen. It's also what others don't do that matters....

Re: 2017/2018 - What went wrong?

Stam had one very good season, esp considering where we had been, and then he had one bad season. Can hardly say that the very good season was memorable for the quality of the football. There were enough indifferent / poor performances to suggest that the squad was "fragile". By the secon...
