Re: Gourlay Out

Always surprised when people claim to understand the workings of large, opaque organisations.

It would be rather surprising if our Chief Executive is the reason why we can only play well for 45 minutes at a time.

Re: BFTG West Brom

Happy to give Meite a chance, it’s not his fault that injuries are perhaps giving him more opportunity than the club would quite like at this stage of his development. He is, essentially, a youngster still finding his way in the English game at a very physical level. Good luck to him and I obviousl...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

^This. There are 2 reasons for the academy, first to bring players through to the first team and second to generate funds for the club. If players aren't good enough for the first team then they are (hopefully) sold to generate funds. Recently there has been a lack of the first, I am not sure on th...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

League Two is hard for young defenders because clubs aren't prepared to take a risk on them. Dickie and Shyam found that out the hard way. A non-league loan to a local club is less risky and probably means they get more game time. Shokunbi is one of those who isn't going to get in the U23 team any t...

Re: Next Reading Manager

It's interesting that it was Ascotexgunner, well known Graham Harry Potter enthusiast, who raised the shots issue. He's got them sixth in the table that matters so you can't knock him too much but would his style of play have us in that position? We've tried it with Adkins, Stam and to lesser exten...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

He put in some good shifts there in the U18s when he was 15. But he's had another growth spurt since then and I'm not sure he's as fleet footed any more. But it could be worth a try. I just remember he used to. Wouldn't use him there these days. I don't think he's better than either Osho or McIntyr...

Re: CONFIRMED - Yakou Meite

This is incredibly weird. A year ago we were trying to sell him. He hasn't done anything good for us since (in fact he looks worse than he did under Stam). An extra year might be a declaration of faith and protect us against losing him if he came good. Four years is insane and potentially lumbers us...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Agreed with that. Everyone looked good today, Teddy Howe had a very good game despite one heart-in-mouth moment. Would like to see Osho, Holmes and McIntyre all play - maybe one could go into midfield to add some steel.

Re: Danny Loader

He seems to have posted a video on Instagram featuring Boyata in a Reading jersey. Unless our number 48 (do we have one?) Looks extremely similar to the Celtic defender.. That'll be Medford-Smith Why tag him though Same reason Man City players call Zinchenko "Kevin", or why we called Glen...

Re: Reading FC international player quiz

43/47. Missed Georgia and Finland due to spelling issues. Missed Iran due to assuming I'd already put it in. Missed Italy because I couldn't think of an Italian player, even though he's our current first choice goalkeeper. The quiz should really include Kenya. Tips for people having to type on phone...

Re: Club developed players

There's a rule change for this season that says that each Football League matchday squad of 18 must include a "club developed player", or else you can only name 6 subs. The definition is of someone who spent 12 months at the club before their Under-19 season ended. There is a vaguely word...

Re: BFTG , Hull.

Very pleased with that.

Only thing to add that might be controversial is that while O'Shea was immense in the air, Hull really played into his hands - the two times they ran at him he went in the book. Think he'd be a big liability against a better team. But we have to work with the players we have.

What are you on about? Stop guessing to try and sound clever. Perhaps he meant having a nutter in the opposition b...

Loader starting for the U23s tonight but no Rinomhota. May be a clue that Rinomhota will be in the squad tomorrow - hope so I'd focus on McCleary tbh - though he might just be injured! Loader probably isn't what we need right now. Novakovich is, but... McIntyre is the one I think we might benefit f...

A few people mentioned Aluko and Kelly's deliveries not beating the first man - while a very real frustration I think it indicates we are not at the forefront. From what I have previously read on set piece analytics (not much beyond things already linked...), this is really common as teams are cons...

Re: Team for Preston (A)

Meyler - 2 (WTAF?) That's harsh. In his time at RFC JVB was a walking red card or gifted goal. Meyler is a step up. Joey was good for most of his time here, once he got over that difficult first month he was a real asset until things went downhill midway through last season. Meyler hasn't shown any...
