Re: Value the Squad

Have just re-read the O.P. and it has led to some mildly interesting discussion. I think the views of Pete on values are in many instances way off beam. I think he has failed to take into account that our squad consists of players just above Div 1 level and that is how they and our club is perceive...

Re: Value the Squad

Considering either McIntyre or Osho is currently notionally part of the first XI, it's strange to value them at one-seventh of a 15 year old who will probably never play professional football. Similarly, selling Bod at a loss despite this being the best spell of his career. I've certainly undervalu...

Re: Value the Squad

I'd give McNulty a go alongside or in behind our main striker. I'd rather sell Baldock than McNulty tbh. Baldock's likely to be on higher wages. So would I. Gomes, however, plays a 4-3-3 system with a number 10 like Swift (or Barrett!), not a floating poacher like McNulty. He is absolutely not a Go...

Re: Value the Squad

So an established international right back is worth nothing but a right back with 1 minute's first team experience is worth £1m+? If you read what I put at the bottom, I said I’d like to renegotiate Gunters contract. Failing that, yes, Gunter is being paid £1.25 million a year (I’d guess), the yout...

Value the Squad

Inspired by the FFP and the Danny Loader threads, how would you value the current squad? :?: Chris Gunter * FREE :?: Andy Yiadom  £4m :?: Liam Moore  £11m :?: David Meyler * FREE (would pay 50% wages too) :?: Sam Baldock  £500k :?: John Swift  £4m :?: Jord...

Promotion team 'must haves'

I listened today to a snippet of Peter Crouch talking about having players at a club who demand high standards (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/48199045). This made me think of the excellent Yann Kermorgant interview where he bemoaned the loss of leaders at the club. So, the (near) necessiti...

Re: Rumour Meite back to France?

Would he start at Lille though? In that interview he talks about being settled and happy at Reading and wanting to make the best decision for his career. He may see getting games in the Championship and better for him in the ling term. No chance. If he fails at Lille, the next move for him would be...

Re: Championship free agents... who would you have?

From Despair To Where? I still think we might see Nelson Monte joining from Rio Ave. Gomes knows him, he's out of contract and apparently West Ham were looking at him last year.

This sounds like a great shout!

Re: Speculation - Players From The Relegated Trio

Vela isn't that good?!

Would Nick Powell be a good replacement for Swift if we cashed in? His wages may go high though as someone on a free.

Ben Wiles, if we could knick him for cheap, would be another excellent punt.

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Chelsea lost their appeal against a transfer ban. Will that make it easier or harder to sign players from them? I would probably err on the harder side. They will have to plug any gaps from what they've already got and they'll have a sizeable Hazard shaped hole to fill as well Pulisic is that guy. ...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Marginally harder? Miazga will not play for them, he will either be loaned or sold. This depends on the loan fee there can get vs a transfer fee, or his willingness to stay as a Chelsea owned loan player. Either way, he will not get near their first team (Zouma, Tomori etc ahead of him as back up e...

Re: Which of the loanees would you prioritise?

3 of Baldock, Bodvarsson, McNulty and even (sadly) Novakovic will probably be sold - this will allow for the signing of Oliveira and say, Ezatolahi. Don't really understand the logic of selling three strikers in order to buy one striker. If we sold, say, Bod, Baldock, and McNulty, then we'd be down...

Re: Which of the loanees would you prioritise?

Anyone who wants Moore sold - albeit reluctantly - obviously doesn't understand how important it is to have 'winners/characters' in the dressing room. The guy is the defacto captain, he's an articulate spokesman for the team and seems to want to succeed at Reading as much as anything. I don't think ...

My observations:  Starting with the most important. When it’s hot and sunny Reading fans, WEAR SOME oxf*rd DEODORANT! Absolutely stank in the away end  Gunter was poor, Blackett looked scared again. It’s weird, I was convinced Blackett was a left sided centre back in a 3 and nothing el...

Re: Difficulties away from home

Weirdly, we used to have similar repeated difficulties with one of our own players. Week in, week out we needed to remind him of the spelling of his own name. Weirder still, half way through reminding him, we assured him that he already knew, sure in fact! Spelt it out to him one more time for good ...
