Re: The Legend of Robin Friday

Saw this article on the BBC yesterday - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42149232 - Omar Abdulrahman: Is he the best footballer you've never heard of? But can he score a 100 yarder from the Tilehurst End in front of 85,000,000 while taking a dump in Lawro's kit bag? Nice little book, very well p...

Re: Tommy Jenkins.

Played three more times after Brentwood, last game v Torquay away 5.12.69 so he was probably sold exactly 48 years ago today. He played just 10 home games, league and cup, was sold for £60k, a record amount that stood for years and years and pretty much as soon as he went we started playing brillian...

Re: BFTG Sunderland

tbf looking back the last 30 years, we've had some really great keepers haven't we? Main 'keepers playing for Reading during my time supporting them; Scott Howie Phil Whitehead Marcus Hahnemann Adam Federici AAH Vito Mannone Pretty good list IMHO. Scott Howie? He got subbed at HT at Wycombe when we...

Re: BFTG - Ramming the Rams

Of course the top 6 is in reach, an 8pt gap with 2/3rds of the season to go is nothing. We need to carry this form on for a prolonged period though. Positive signs. We need 74-75 points for 6th therefore 56-57 points from 30 games. Do-able but it's damn near automatic promotion form required from h...

Re: BFTG - Middlesbrough

With Seth on this mainly. Thought we were the bettter side first half, only down due to JVBs customary howler. Still in the game at until second goal despite injury disruptions. We're getting beat not hammered which is a small consolation. Unlike last season luck has not been on our side. Or AAH. Sm...

Re: Worst ever Reading Player

Home attendances from 1971/2 are interesting (well nearly) and the fluctuation which characterises our traditionally fickle support. Look at the crowd against Barrow at home, although I suspect there was some sort of deal for Arsenal tickets attached to it. The Barrow players must have got stage fr...

Re: Worst ever Reading Player

1971-72 was our lowest finish in the league - 16th in Div 4 - largely because Charlie Hurley decided to try youngsters towards the end of the season. We still had a shout at promotion in mid-March then collapsed with two wins, three draws, ten defeats. Our last home match had Martin James - who real...

Re: Rival Watch

Fox Talbot's Law states that one of the top two in the Championship after 7 games will go up automatically.

(Based on data from the dozen or so seasons)

So that's our chances halved already

Impossible to state a preference between Leeds and Cardiff.

The joke is on the Oxford United and Coventry fans though - crowds boycotted the tournament throughout then when the final comes around 45k Cov fans pay through the nose to go and watch it. Unbelievable really. Cov haven't been promoted or even in a promotion race since 1967! They've had one good d...

Unforgettable glory days of pre-season 1970-71, IIRC. Man U (Watney Cup), Glentoran (a), Telstar (a) .... we're on our way .... to Div Four for the first time.

Re: Summer Ins and Outs

Hard to gauge the standards, but with a ground capacity of just over 3 1/2k, they sound far from sleeping giants. As a side dish, once managed by Jack Mansell. And we played them there in a preseason friendly in 1970. We won 4-2 but can't read too much into that as we were being compared to Brazil ...

Re: 2017/18 Championship Fixtures

For those who appreciate home matches evenly spaced out the list isn't terrific.

5 x with over a fortnight between home games, rising to 28 days at one point.
5 x two home games in 3/4 days

and for the purists / old-timers just the 5 x 14 days traditional routine.

Emphasised what a missed opportunity our2008 relegation was.

On his stats and as we thought anyway we should have done much better in 2007-8 and lasted a few more years on the back of that.

Omen-wise this is very bad news.

In fact this should be added to the Reading FC badge - maybe in Latin to make it all fancy

Tosspot.

We can have the T-Pot derby next season (subject to Hudders, of course).

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

A little bit of payback for 2008 in my view. Yeah, Fulham were the better team with better footballers and all that ... BUT there's a streak in the English game about making the most of your resources to win a match against the odds. Which Jaap did. Which Nottm Forest did in the European Cup in 1980...

Re: YTF is everyone scared of Fulham FC??

Don't really want to start a new thread on this, but - what's the record for the number of times we've played one team in a season? After the playoffs we would've played Fulham 4 1/2 times. Think we played Bristol Rovers five times. We played Fulham three times in the league cup one year, think the...

Re: YTF is everyone scared of Fulham FC??

I saw the 2-4 there and the 0-5 there. We really struggle against their fast, nippy, forwards. In the abandoned game here I thought they were the better side in the first half and beating them 1-0 in the re-arranged was hard work. They've gained a few more points (3) than we have in the second half ...

Re: Car Park Renewals

Kes irs totally right - the mistakes were made in the design of the stadium accesses. Whoever came up with that abomination had no idea about the dynamics of pedestrian flow and the need to keep peds and vehicles separate where possible, and look to minimise, points of contact. As another illustrat...
