Re: Roy Bentley

Roy tried hard, against the odds of a stick-in-the-mud mentality, as manager for six years and was a good servant to the club and the game. He continued to live in Reading until near the end.

West Brom in the League Cup and Man City away in the FA Cup come to mind as high points.

Re: CONFIMRED - Paul Clement appointed as new Royals boss

Ron Gourlay appoints old Chelsea contact with less than sparkling record in hot seat and no sign of anyone else being interviewed. Ah, the ex-Chelsea connection that has served us well in the past with Porterfield, Rogers, Clarke. Still, this one could turn out brilliantly. Keep us up PC and make yo...

Re: BFTG Wolves

Didn't go. Didn't even listen to 2nd half on radio. Can't bear it. Tuned in for a bit of post match wailing from Ady. I agree - no "structure". Stam is no longer inflexible - he's jelly - will try anything - which is what many have been advocating. Not a lot to work with though, which is a...

Re: Gate figure conspiracy-gate?

RG30 s figure for Cardiff looks wrong. In programme it's 16,670 not 11,307. I just took the figure off the official site https://www.readingfc.co.uk/matches/fixtures/first-team/201718/december/reading-vs-cardiff-city-on-09-dec-17/# Interesting! The figure there 11307 would be a credible 'real' gate...

Re: Gate figure conspiracy-gate?

RG30 s figure for Cardiff looks wrong. In programme it's 16,670 not 11,307. Jackson I think under estimates the number of STH. I think it's 12,000-12,500. Before Gategate the lowest crowd was Barnsley - 13,317. Take away 300 Tykes = 13,000 home fans i.e. The STH plus match day buyers, not many I'd h...

Re: Gate figure conspiracy-gate?

I'm just adding my view. and doing it not very well Your view that counting missing STH are not counted in attendances is incorrect. For the most recent glaring incidence look at last weeks Arsenal v Man C, declared as 59,000 and widely laughed in the press at as half the seats were empty. There ha...

Gate figure conspiracy-gate?

When the gate for Sheff U was announced I assumed a junior media bod had cocked up by giving the real figure. But there's been no correction and last night's figure was done on the same basis - presumably not counting absent STH. For the last x years it's been the policy of almost all clubs to repor...

Re: BFT Appalling mess at home

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Stam here.THREE times Blackett got caught in possession just fannying around. The third led to their second goal. A very poor half hour from TB.

Whole afternoon miserable. Even a fight on my bus back to the station.

Re: CONFIMRED - Chris Martin (loan)

Martin and Elphick deals suggest a higher degree of panic - very expensively salved - than I had expected from RFC. Have our direct relegation rivals done much business in terms of incoming players ? BTW I hate the way pundits use terms like 'bodies' or 'big units' - they wouldn't dare say that abou...

Re: Low away attendances

I've always wondered about how many we took to Oxford in 1976 (?) It was an evening game between Xmas and New Year, lost 0-1 to a late goal, snow. I was on a supporters coach, but I counted very, very few Biscuitmen on the terraces. So it was left to me to chin the Oxford scum. Was there too and co...

Re: FA Cup Round 4 Draw

I'd love a trip up to Carlisle. For anyone whose been to a few grounds, it's an almost mythical one to "tick off". Just to have been to an away game there is like saying you've fought dragons, as other supporters swoon in shock...No! surely there's no-one alive who's been to a game that f...

Re: Record Watch 2017/18

At this rate, Man City will be a threat to 106  They look pretty damn unstoppable right now, but surely, SURELY they have to drop at least the 7pts more required.[/quote] Our record of 60 points by New Year's Day stands. If it is in fact our record. Biscuits of 85/86 >>>>>>>> Citeh of 17/18 :l...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Unpleasant and mildly disappointing win over an ill-disciplined Millwall. Loader and Fanyani scored early on but we conceded a soft goal on half time. In the second half there was a really ugly brawl in front us (East stand) and the ref may have been a touch lenient in sending off one from each side...

Saw this article on the BBC yesterday - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42149232 - Omar Abdulrahman: Is he the best footballer you've never heard of? But can he score a 100 yarder from the Tilehurst End in front of 85,000,000 while taking a dump in Lawro's kit bag? Nice little book, very well p...

Played three more times after Brentwood, last game v Torquay away 5.12.69 so he was probably sold exactly 48 years ago today. He played just 10 home games, league and cup, was sold for £60k, a record amount that stood for years and years and pretty much as soon as he went we started playing brillian...

Re: BFTG - Ramming the Rams

Of course the top 6 is in reach, an 8pt gap with 2/3rds of the season to go is nothing. We need to carry this form on for a prolonged period though. Positive signs. We need 74-75 points for 6th therefore 56-57 points from 30 games. Do-able but it's damn near automatic promotion form required from h...

With Seth on this mainly. Thought we were the bettter side first half, only down due to JVBs customary howler. Still in the game at until second goal despite injury disruptions. We're getting beat not hammered which is a small consolation. Unlike last season luck has not been on our side. Or AAH. Sm...

Re: Worst ever Reading Player

Home attendances from 1971/2 are interesting (well nearly) and the fluctuation which characterises our traditionally fickle support. Look at the crowd against Barrow at home, although I suspect there was some sort of deal for Arsenal tickets attached to it. The Barrow players must have got stage fr...
