Re: On this day

Loads of games on 17th of January over the years. The highlight has to be a 2-0 win at the Co*nty Ground, though. Swindle, remarkably, managing to be worse that one of the worst Reading teams in a generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tMIAd2ZLfc (goals at 1:10 and 2:15) Is there a finer sigh...

Re: Sunderland Netflix documentary

My immediate reaction was Lee Cattermole is the oldest thirty-year old I have ever seen. Mrs Ark asked what Sunderland is like and I replied that it was like the worst toilet in Scotland scene from Trainspotting, only in England.

Re: On this day

THIRTY-THREE  years ago today Reading go 0-3 down against promotion challengers Plymouth, pull one back in the 65th minute through a Deano  pen and then score three in nine minutes to win 4-3. Still the most utterly mental game I have ever witnessed.

Re: On this day

Reading 4 Wolves 2. One of the greatest EP occasions and Reading fans rabid after McGhee had left. Headers by Oz  , Quinn, the ultimate tap-in by Gilkes, second stabs from Gilkesy after THAT reverse pass by Quinn and holstering pistols in front of the South Bank, Oz nearly shattering the Tile...

Re: Roy Bentley's Stationary Club

Totally IN for this and still clear memories of that era. Bentley's team where there or thereabouts during his reign - 6th, 13th, 8th, 4th, 5th - but the wheels started coming off in 68/69 and they finished 14th. It was an awful season, and the club had introduced Friday night home games to combat d...

Saw that on this day in 1994 we lost 1-3 at home to Tranny with loanee Darren Barnard in the side. Only made four appearances and did not make too much of an impression, but he was capable of doing this:

Re: Robin Friday

I was given Robin Friday's shirt, which I had framed a couple of years ago. He wore this number 11 shirt for the opening home game of the 75/76 season against Rochdale - the game of the infamous Tommy Youlden 'goal'. Every other game that season he wore the number 9 shirt. https://lh3.googleusercont...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

So when the next Nations League cycle starts again, will England still be in the same group as Spain plus one other replacing Croatia or are the leagues all drawn again?

8 October1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBrm7iRlkUU I could watch Simon Osborn's volley forever. Brilliant goal by a brilliant player. I was oop north in Blackpool that weekend for a stag-do, but took some time out to see Burnley v Bolton at Turf Moor. Remember thinking how good Bolton were. ...

Re: League Cup 2nd round draw

Fond memories of a 2nd round 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road in September 92. One of the first signs that Mark McGhee was beginning to put together something special. Jimmy Quinn and Adie Williams notched IIRC. A biblical downpour flooded the away end and I was sodden by the time I got back to the car par...

Best of the World Cup?

A day early I know, but to date my best XI would be: Lloris Pavard Varane Godin Strinic Mbappe Kante Modric Hazard Kane Lukaku Subs: Pickford, Trippier, Maguire, Granqvist, Rakitic, De Bruyne, Cavani Player of the tournament: Kante just nicks it ahead of Modric. Game of the tournament: Japan 2 Belgi...

Watched the game at the Three Lions in Milwaukee and a local Fox 6 News team were there throughout. Brilliant day mixing it with ex-pats from Blackburn, Manchester, Rochdale, Stockport, Bromley, Birmingham and all over. Bar was at its three hundred capacity an hour before kick off. The cameraman (or...

Re: World Cup 2018

My fourteenth World Cup and the best ever. 1970? Yep. 2014? Yep; but this World Cup has been a sheer delight and we have not yet got to the QFs. Two breathtaking games today and the shock was there were no shocks - eventually.

If Belgium play with a back three vs Brazil they will get destroyed.
