Re: Clement

Regarding the flat corner / hitting the first man - i used to remember that Ian Harte used to do that 2/3 times a game (to groans from half the ground) before the next one allowed Pearce/Morrison to score.

I don't have the stats to hand, but I feel like it resulted in thousands of goals.

I hear ya, but I reckon there would still have been a hefty settlement figure in the region of 50-75% of the remaining contract value.

Re: Strikers.

Hopefully our transfer policy is changing, our policy over the summer was a oxf*rd joke. Looking over the bargains in the lower leagues for a load of bang average players Erm, what? Exactly 0 (ZERO) of our signings in the last year have been from the lower leagues. Barrow came from Swansea. Aluko, ...

Re: Madjeski and Howe

It's rumoured that Mr Yongge will be at the Brentford game on Saturday.... Not surprised either - cracking little away day tbf*. Hopefully see him round the back of the Griffin for a pre-match pint and possibly a dangerously undercooked burger. * In all honesty it's often the only away game I bothe...

Farnborough 4-3 Basingstoke Town Went to this yesterday - mostly in the hope of seeing Jamie Cureton (who i've since found out has left to play for Bishops Storford - my finger isn't really on the pulse) Another fantastic strike from Sam Smart for 'Stoke - I'd put it down as a fluke if I hadn't see...

Re: Weekend Football

Guardiola really has done a great job with Sterling this season. He looks a proper player again. Agreed to some extent - he still doesn't half miss some sitters though. A slight exaggeration, but he could/should have had a hat-trick (or more) in pretty much every game I've seen him play this season...

Re: Dave Edwards' book

Christ - the Dave Edwards' book must be a hard sell for the publisher. Don't doubt that he's a bright, articulate and thoroughly nice bloke, but not sure a career predominantly made up of spells at clubs such as Shrewsbury and Wolves can have the gravitas to shift more than a couple of thousand copi...

'greed - but at least they were decent while they were here.

Don't get me wrong, Danny WIlliams had his moments (and i love him like a brother etc), but the rest were poor for us imho.

Recent Ex-Players Performing

Had a bit of a :| face on over the last couple of weeks watching Match of the Day or the Champ programme on 5. Spotted: Michael Antonio - back from injury and back amongst the scorers. Danny Williams looking like a world-beater against Manchester United. Billy Sharp has scored 5 this season (obvs. o...

Went to Basingstoke v Gosport Borough last night. A fairly easy 5-0 win for Basingstoke, although three goals in the last 10 or so minutes added extra sheen. Don't recall Gosport having an attempt on goal until a defence mistake by the B'Stoke left back with a few minutes to go forced a really good...

Braved* the swirling wind and rain to see Basingstoke vs Merthyr last night. Merthyr were well on top in the first half - plenty of possession in wide areas but little in terms of quality in the final third. Very few chances for either side. Second half - despite the deteriorating conditions Basing...

Re: The Non - League thread

Disappointed to have missed the 2-2 draw between Basingstoke and Hartley Wintney on Saturday (away at Center Parcs). It's something of a derby for me as I currently live in the former, but was born and raised in the latter. Did anyone go to the game? There's a replay tonight in Hartley, but I've go...
