Re: Financial Fair Play

From what I’ve heard, our perilous financial situation is going to scupper our chances of signing any of the loan players  Surely if we sell off the likes of Swift and Aluko there may be some funds available. Nope - the black hole is back. Haven't you heard? It's all over the news. If you look...

Winston Biscuit They play West Brom Leeds, Shef Utd & Derby next, then play 4 of the current bottom 6 after that to finish the season.

Re: Sensible Option: Adam Federici

Agree that Feds would be a significant upgrade on what we have now, but think it's probably quite rare to loan in a first choice keeper in January? You're basically telling the existing 2/3 keepers that they have no future at the club. Regarding Alex Pearce (as also mentioned on this thread) - he ha...

Thought we looked only a couple of signings short of a decent League 1 side tbh.

Re: The Non - League thread

Horrible area, granted - but it's a decent little ground tbf. Arguably better quality than the Camrose, and easily big enough to cope with the circa 3-400 supporters they get on an average week. Might struggle when your Lutons or your Herefords come to town, but I feel that Basingstoke may be playi...

Re: The Non - League thread

Hi mate, Luton are in the upper echelons of League 1 and Hereford are struggling at the foot of the Conference North. Basingstoke won't be playing either any time soon so I'm not sure of what your point is. They played Hereford in March of this year, but Luton I give you - I was just thinking of a ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Winklebury really isn't suitable IMO. Though I believe they are going to a 3G(4G?) pitch soon. Horrible area as well. Horrible area, granted - but it's a decent little ground tbf. Re: The Non - League thread

Might struggle when your Lutons or your Herefords come to town, but I feel that Basingstoke may be playing at one or even two levels lower in the coming seasons, unfortunately - so these 'big clubs' will be few and far between. Hi mate, Luton are in the upper echelons of League 1 and Hereford are s...

Re: The Non - League thread

I thought they had left the Camrose - or have they just called their new place the same thing? ....found a statement from the end of last month, buried away on their website, reporting they will be at Camrose for all of 18/19. The aim is to commence playing their games the following season, at the ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Martin Kuhl has been appointed as the new manager at Basingstoke. Great appointment For Basingstoke, Martin is a top manager who I believe will manage in the football league one day 'Stoke must be pinching themselves really. Absolutely skint , awful owner, best player out on trial at Sunderland (an...

Re: Clement

Regarding the flat corner / hitting the first man - i used to remember that Ian Harte used to do that 2/3 times a game (to groans from half the ground) before the next one allowed Pearce/Morrison to score.

I don't have the stats to hand, but I feel like it resulted in thousands of goals.

tidus_mi2 Certainly contrasts well with Roberts who decided to milk his contract despite being crocked

I hear ya, but I reckon there would still have been a hefty settlement figure in the region of 50-75% of the remaining contract value.

Hopefully our transfer policy is changing, our policy over the summer was a oxf*rd joke. Looking over the bargains in the lower leagues for a load of bang average players Erm, what? Exactly 0 (ZERO) of our signings in the last year have been from the lower leagues. Barrow came from Swansea. Aluko, ...

It's rumoured that Mr Yongge will be at the Brentford game on Saturday.... Not surprised either - cracking little away day tbf*. Hopefully see him round the back of the Griffin for a pre-match pint and possibly a dangerously undercooked burger. * In all honesty it's often the only away game I bothe...

Farnborough 4-3 Basingstoke Town Went to this yesterday - mostly in the hope of seeing Jamie Cureton (who i've since found out has left to play for Bishops Storford - my finger isn't really on the pulse) Another fantastic strike from Sam Smart for 'Stoke - I'd put it down as a fluke if I hadn't see...

Re: Weekend Football

Guardiola really has done a great job with Sterling this season. He looks a proper player again. Agreed to some extent - he still doesn't half miss some sitters though. A slight exaggeration, but he could/should have had a hat-trick (or more) in pretty much every game I've seen him play this season...

Re: Dave Edwards' book

Christ - the Dave Edwards' book must be a hard sell for the publisher. Don't doubt that he's a bright, articulate and thoroughly nice bloke, but not sure a career predominantly made up of spells at clubs such as Shrewsbury and Wolves can have the gravitas to shift more than a couple of thousand copi...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Ipswich Town (a) sponsored by a Steve Richardson goal

eddiegrundy The Reading team coach has been involved in a collision on leaving Portman Road. Someone has impaled their car in the rear of the coach. Car looks a mess but coach looks not too bad. Don't know if anyone has been hurt but expect all on coach to be OK.

Sounds like an absolute car crash.
