Re: World Cup 2018

 That ref was awful, let Costa Rica get away with constant fouls and apparently decided that Neymar would not be allowed to do anything.

And then when he does give something in Neymar's favour he's wrong, absolute shambles

Re: World Cup 2018

Why is it only defenders that seem to be unable to jump without waving their arms in the air?

Anyway, the Brazil v Costa Rica game adds to my feeling that refs are just going to start abdic8ing responsibility to VAR and just won't give decisions on field any more (unless against England of course)

Re: World Cup 2018

Well, that won't do much for VAR's prospects* if it turns out the VAR lads were trying to tell the ref to review Ronnie's penalty claim but his walkie-talkie was broken

*hurray!!

I'd say they're going to get a penalty but Portugal are just about getting away with it so far

Re: World Cup 2018

It's all well and good ronaldo being one of the best in the world but the rest of this Portugal team aren't exactly setting the game alight right now. Ronnie's already double teapotting at some of his team-mates decisions Absolutely, without Ronaldo they would be struggling for sure. TBF they might...

Re: World Cup 2018

Group A nearly done if Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia this afternoon. Egypt and Saudi Arabia would be out, and the final group game would see Russia and Uruguay play off for the dubious honour of winning Group A, with likely opponents Portugal or Spain in round two. 2nd place in group A also likely gets...

That bloke in the middle looks like a bit of a journeyman, free transfer?

I was surprised to see Dean Windass back in the game

Re: England’s World Cup Finals 2018

Your debate is exactly why VAR shouldn't be used in penalty situations. Because some people are stupid? For an example of why it shouldn't be used, it's Lovren's 'foul' in the Spurs (?) game last season. There's nothing to debate on the France penalty. Considering you are literally the only person ...

Re: England’s World Cup Finals 2018

I feel like the refs are already not giving some decisions because they think the VAR lads will do it for them. The Peru and Sweden pens should have been given on-field by any half decent ref but they seem to be heading down the road where umpires in cricket never seem to give a run out any more, th...

Both post the original release of 3 Lions of course so ineligible. I guess they could have thrown in Banks's save

Re: Ingerlund Vs Tunisia

EGR's point is valid but then how do you define the period of hurt? Who can say they didn't thoroughly enjoy David Platt's winner against the Belgians? I tried to come up with a rule of three but apart from "that tackle by Moore" and "when Lineker scored" as obviously mentioned I...

Re: World Cup 2018

So at least in this world cup it seems the time allowed for VAR is as long as it takes the VAR team to review it and then tell the ref to have a look himself

Re: Ingerlund Vs Tunisia

The weekends games should have served as a good warning to both players and fans as to what to expect. Apart from the dangers of over-confidence, which this well prepared England side appear to have covered, that's nonsense really. The only thing I'd glean from the games so far that applies to this...

Re: World Cup Punditry

They're all pcunts but I've been particularly rattled by Matterface and Pearce with their pre-planned anecdotes that they insist on going through regardless of what is happening on the pitch, can't remember which match it was but Pearce was telling some story about a previous world cup and his co-co...

Re: VAR

The Argie one went out for a goal kick so once he allowed play to restart the ref couldn’t go back whereas the Peru one the ball didn’t go dead, who knows how long they have to look at it mind you? Certainly none of the commentators
