Re: MATCHWATCH : Croatia (n) sponsored by two big badges

That argument totally overlooks the part the Championship, and even League One, can play in player development. It's a league with a lot of internationals playing in it and it's comparable to a lot of other European top flights. Indeed didn't Maguire, Pickford, Lingard (off the top of my head) play...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Weird episode this only in that at no point has he been 'sacked' or agreed to 'leave by mutual consent', or 'resigned'. It's just dragged on forever, Sarri is as good as confirmed on his way and now Conte has 'left the club'.

Jean Michel Seri to.....Fulham!
Chelsea thought they had him a couple of days ago, Liverpool were sniffing around last summer, and Barcelona too. That's one hell of a coup for Tony Khan and Fulham.

There wasn't one Woman 2: there was, near the square bit Me: You mean a free kick Her: Yes, a penalty Lady behind me a...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Croatia (n) sponsored by two big badges

Agree, Stranded, a big step forward and Southgate can take a lot of credit for that. We should be proud of the team, who have played excellent football (even last night, we kept trying to pass the ball), and approached games with a team ethic and spirit we haven't seen for a generation (even the '96...

His career took a wrong turn - Liverpool were in for him before he signed for Dortmund, where he hardly played.

Re: World Cup Punditry

Mr Lineker likes to virtue signal, so lets see if he has anything to say on the lack of diversity of the top BBC earners. I am pretty sure the BBC could bring in another performing seal on half that wage and could do equally as good, if not better job than Jugs. Cool. I really like Lineker, fwiw. P...

Re: World Cup Punditry

Gary Lineker is the host of the BBC World Cup team and Alan Shearer is one of the senior pundits. Given than this thread is about World Cup punditry I would suggest it's relevant. Why is the diversity of BBC pay relevant? And it's hardly a surprise Lineker tops the list, is it, being the front man ...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Hard to believe Butland made his England debut 6 years ago, and he only has 8 caps. I like him, but have a feeling he might be his generation's Nigel Martyn, always second or third in the pecking order, at international level at least. Very talented, I agree he would be a step up on Karius.

Re: Jordan Rhodes

He had six consecutive seasons with over 20 goals in all competitions. I don't think he was over-rated, just a striker of the classic type who needs a certain type of service, which he got at Huddersfield and Blackburn, and hasn't since. Interestingly*, Rhodes was an Ipswich Town youth player, and t...

Maybe, although Southampton just paid £13.5m for Angus Gunn.

We've got a lot of talented young keepers at the moment.

Re: England’s World Cup Finals 2018

A gem from Twitter this morning. It is football end of days. One of Henderson or Lovren will play in both the Champions League final and the World Cup final. In the same season. On Henderson, he's got a remarkable recent record - no player has ever gone his 30 England games undefeated, and we've won...

[Ctrl c] + [Ctrl v] Loris Karius has had a howler playing for Liverpool tonight. Guardian article on the above says '....with Roma’s valuation of Alisson proving prohibitive'. Klopp I really like as a manager of players, and maybe his hands are tied by FSG, but he sometimes seems slow to accept the...

Re: The generic transfer thread

Do wonder how Juventus are going to get this through FFP. €100m on Ronaldo, €40m each on Costa and Cancelo, and they've sold no-one for money. Perhaps one of Higuain or Mandzukic will be sold, as difficult to see they need five forwards (with Dybala and Costa too).

Ronaldo to Juventus confirmed for €100m.

In other transfer news, I read yesterday that as part of his free transfer to Juventus, Emre Can enjoys a nice £14m signing-on fee.

Yeah, that's fair enough. Adding Carroll to the 'love train' would make it even more formidable.

Here's a stat and a half...

At Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016, England took 72 corners without them leading to a goal.

Re: Club v Country

As one of the few posters on here who seem to have been interested in the England side over the last few years I'd probably say the World Cup to be honest. As we're seeing now, international football can grab a nation like no club competition can and to see young Englishmen performing for their cou...
