Re: BFTG - Wolves

Reading played some decent football, and had the bulk of the possession, but had trouble turning their territorial advantage into clear chances. It's not exactly a first for this team. In fairness there were a lot of good things about today's game, but the same failings, being rather lightweight, pl...

I love the way the screen grab of the tweet is censored, but is then repeated verbatim, without any censoring, in the text below.

Re: The Non - League thread

Went to see Lye Town v Stourport. Lye's ground is "rustic", but I quite liked it.

Cup competitions go by various names, be they cups, trophies, vases, shields etc, but reading the Lye programme I saw a first, seeing that Lye compete in the "Worcestershire Senior Urn"

Re: Relegation

The whole "Dutch football" thing is a massive red herring. It's the inability to implement a very possession focussed style of play and not changing when it's failing is the problem. It's one of those "I heard a pundit on Sky say it, so I'll repeat it" opinions, with no real tho...

Re: BFTG - Middlesbrough

So would you go for an English manager or a foreign one? A foreign one is likely to have more or less the same idea about keeping the ball, or at least about the general style of play. If it's an English one, who would it be, bearing in mind you need to be realistic and accept nobody is going to wal...

Re: What is wrong?

Reading’s players are technically good players. Playing style though is not good. Dutch “total” football died ages ago outside of The Netherlands and seriously lacks any directness (least the version we get served up does).? This "Dutch football has failed" idea has become cliche of the s...

Re: Brian Tevreden

Even Hammond wouldnt have got a striker at the stupid prices being quoted and the players wanted were not for sale anyway according their clubs at the time. Then look somewhere else. If our scouting team can't do any better than identify players who did quite well in the championship last season, t...

Re: BFTG - Middlesbrough

This really all stems from two things. Firstly, our style of play does us no favours when we are a goal down. It's not just a problem this season either. We pretty much expected defeat when we went behind last year too, especially away. The flip side is that we were unbeatable if we went ahead. That...

Re: Brian Tevreden

I have to agree. Our recruitment has been terrible. It's as if our transfer policy is to assume that if we sign enough midfielders, eventually we'll find some who'll do a good job when put together in the team.

And all the time we have been crying out for strikers, and some cover at the back.

I was there! I saw their minutes. I also saw BOTH Graeme Murty goals. And I saw Steve Richardson score as well plus the David Lee goalfest at Peterborough. Anyone else got some RARE "I was there" moments? I saw Aaron's Giamattei's five-minute career at Bradford, where he came on as sub, a...

Tbf they went bankrupt and had to start again in 2005, and have achieved back to back promotions from Serie C to get to where they are now. Didn't stop them sacking the manager who did that for them after just 9 games in the top flight. Not only is this there first year in Serie A, last year...

Re: Mad Stad atmosphere rated 2nd worst in league

The Mad Stad is in a dull location, but is it really worse than Bolton? At least our ground is in the same town. We've had boring football for about four years in a row now. Even last year was dull, despite the good results. The play-off semi showed we can certainly get up for it when we care. We ju...

Not Europe, but I was pleased to see that the "aptly named" Super Power Samut Prakan of the Thai Premier League notched up a win last week. They lost their first game, drew their 2nd, then lost 27 games in row, before their 3-2 win v Thai Navy.

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

LOL at people worrying that the possession stats don't add up to 100. It makes little sense for them to add up to 100. Perfectly possible for neither side to have possession of the ball at times. It's only a guesstimate anyway...... Possession is just a percentage of the passes each team made, so i...

Maidenhead edge a hard fought game v Tranmere last night. Game looked destined for 0-0 from the start in all fairness, two combative teams cancelling each other for the most part in poor conditions. Just my kind of game! Maidenhead started without any strikers due to injuries and departure of Dave ...
