Re: Bowen speaks

Interesting article in the Mail on line about Dai yesterday.
Whilst running R.F.C. ‘Into the ground’ he has added a 9 bathroomed pad with pool close to Buckingham Palace to his billionaire portfolio.
If accurate there seems to be no shortage of readies.

Re: BFTG QPR (a)

Reading and listening to the terminal decline of a Club I have supported since 1947 I am currently watching Derby (losing to Brum). What is striking is that despite their parlous position the stadium is full. Surely the people ostensibly running OUR Club can recognise that the ‘product’ they are sel...

Re: Your first game watching Reading FC

1947/8. Season. No idea who they were playing but remember Bill Amor out of his Police uniform and Maurice Edelston who I was to meet many years later on the Tennis courts. I would be 15 then, entry in Tilehurst Road, 1 sh and 3 pence. Long time interest but too old and infirm to go now even if we c...

Scutterbucketz Worst Reading Pen ever by Boye. That’s quite the achievement.

Not so sure about that!
Fond memories of ‘Bomber’ Reeve sending a rocket last seen heading down Wantage Road. Don’t think we ever got the ball back!
Can’t remember who we were playing.Happy days at E.P.

Re: RIP - Gordon Neate

Wow - this is getting more and more nostalgic!! I remember Lofty selling the evening paper - can't recall which one - and as he made his way around the ground, on the path in front of the stands, he would constantly shout "England B"!! Together with the smell of far too well-cooked onions...

Re: RIP - Gordon Neate

A really good bloke and a great asset to the Club for so many years. Last met with him some years back at the back of the Mad Stadium for a long chat about ‘old times’. Oh nostalgia! Re “Lofty”. Does anyone know who he was? I generally stood to the left of the half way line and he was over to the ri...

Piece in The Mail today that only half pay paid to players. Is this a fact or a “ Mailism”?

Re: Ex Players

Hate to throw a spanner in but Hob Nobs are,and were, made by McVities,no connection to Huntley and Palmers.
H &P were well known for ginger nuts or more appropriately for the broken biscuits which seemed to be part of employees perks and fed most of Reading. Those were the days.

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Thanks Denver. Still about (just!). Gave up my S.T. Couple of years ago partly because of the “dross” but mainly health as I seem to have contracted a brain disease which has affected my speech, mobility and not much point in going if you can’t shout at the ref/linesman/players (not ours,of course!)....

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

I still smile at the Hobnobber comment from years ago at A Forest fan who came on after losing here to say ‘At least we have a forest’ with the HN response ‘ But we have Whitley Wood’

Re: Ex Players

Sorry to learn that Wally Hinshelwood has died. Those of us of a certain age ( and still supporting!) will remember him steaming through the mud on the wing at E.P.. Think he scored some 30 goals in those days of honest endeavour in the early 50's.

Re: Reading or England?

Denver, I believe it did, was just to the right of that goal but we were all leaping up and down with flags waving, not a care in the world. No instant replays then. Have only just passed on my programme to a young collector. What a captain in Bobby Moore, this lot playing now not in his league but s...

Re: Reading or England?

Am I the only Hobnobber to be at the 1966 Final? What a day that was, indeed the whole tournament when it was a thing of pride to represent the country. Group of us,working in London, bought a ticket for all the Wembley games. £25, some bargain that but remember my wife thought it an extravagance!

Re: Relegation

Seldom come on here these days but Strap has some very valid points. Worrying part about the new “training” ground is the lack of anything happening except clearance around the old stables which has,I believe, been earmarked for housing. The ground has been cleared with mountains of soil/ sand about...

4 of us made it through deep snow to Manchester in 1955 to see us lose to United ( 4-1 if I remember rightly) in a Cup replay travelling in an Austin A30 with side and rear windows completely frozen all the way. Home fans very tolerant of my youthful ranting. Think the Smith’s coach turned up midway...

In all this can we assume that the Bearwood training ground is now a 'dead duck' and the 'state of the art' Academy also? Will they follow the Brentford lead and, also, when SJM sells up the Hogwood site will they be back to training at Sonning or even Prospect Park? Sad to see a historic part of Rea...

Going past today and the piles of rubbish at the blocked off entrance are growing higher. Could not see any players under there!
Feel lot of sympathy for the golfers who had to give up this pleasant little course and see it like this.

Re: Watford (h) - attendance predictor....

As the Club always include season ticket holders irrespective of whether they are there or not we are never given a true figure . It cannot be difficult to establish given that we all pass through a turnstile or are checked in at the desk but, for me, attendance means bums on seats. After today they...

It is,in fact,a Porsche Magnum of which,I believe there are only two in the Country - the other owned by a Liverpool Player.
He spent at least £50k. on internal comforts- sound system etc. And it has Dutch numberplates. Think he brought it with him.
