Re: In or Out?

Out There is nothing wrong with the quality of the players. They are playing the way the manager has told them to - slow, cautious, not prepared to take risks in attack. He does not appear to know how to coach them to attack incisively. I pay to be entertained, and I haven't been for a long, long ti...

Re: IN - or NOT?

Snowball I have a solution!

Make the goals smaller

and it's a goal if it touches the woodwork in any way shape or form

Brilliant!

Re: IN - or NOT?

The common argument against goal line technology, that I can never get my head round, is "you can't bring it in as it would need to be applied to every level of the game, not just the top?" Why? Every other sport that uses replays etc gets on fine with it only being used at the top. It's n...

Re: IN - or NOT?

Terminal Boardom Lino gave it. The referee agreed. It was a goal. Get over it.

That's obvious. The point is linesman are going to carry on getting these decisions wrong because their brains aren't wired to call it accurately. Bring on touchline technology Mr Blatter!

Re: IN - or NOT?

It's a scientifically proven phenomenon that the human brain sometimes makes us think that we have seen things that we cannot have seen. Our own vision is translated by what our brain perceives. The referee could be, in his own mind, certain that he saw it go in, particularly if his expectation was ...

Re: Your first memory as Reading supporter...

4-3 Div 4 goal fest vs Exeter City was enough to hook me c.1975, aged 8. Dad took me and left me sitting on the wall on the South Bank with all the other younger kids while the Dads stood on the terraces. Mouldy Old Dough conjures up only one image in my head - Elm Park.

Still sit with my Dad today!

Re: Reading FC v Blackburn Rovers

I do remember it. Blackburn were a side on their way down from better things, and still had some decent players (Some Irish internationals?), but Reading, unusually for that period, totally outclassed them - which is why it stuck in my memory.

Re: I rather hope Harper and Shunt leave now

'If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it' is my view with 17 games to go. If form over the past 10-15 games persists then this Reading team should pull away from Wolves and particularly Brum. Coppell has relatively limited control over Hunt's departure but I cannot see how we would benefit from Harp...

I may have confused this with a dream, but didn't he pick Ronaldo's pocket as he was showbboating in midfield - priceless

Re: Noel Hunt, the new Andy Johnson?

He doesn't have the pace of AJ (but he isn't slow by any means either). From what I saw on Tuesday, Noel looks like a better linking player than AJ and continually pops up in the right place. Better in the air too.

Re: "I will be delighted if this group of players stays"

He's not making do, we genuinely have a good squad. Name me a better Rb than Rosenior in this league, or a better CB than Bikey, or a better left back than Shorey, or a better CM than Matejovsky, or a better LM than S. Hunt . Then Doyle and Lita are on a similar level to the likes of Phillips, Bent...

Re: Rumour - Kitson to Wigan/Stoke

Excellent, lucid post Dirk. As they say, past performance is no guarantee of future performance, and at 28 I can only see Kitson having further stretches of injury. When he plays well he works really hard defensively - something we saw a lot less of this season. £5m is a good deal for RFC and will g...

Re: shorey should go\had a bad season etc etc

For all his undoubted talents I am not convinced NS will knuckle down in the championship, whereas I think many of our other transfer targets (Kitson, Doyle, Harper) will do if they do not move on to a PL club. What RFC do not need this season is an influential player who is not motivated and could ...

Re: Percentage of Transfer Market

Is it not simply that a player signing for a new club is agreeing to be their player from 1st July, not necessarily on the day that they actually put their signature on the contract papers? If they are out of contract from 1st July there is very little the current club can do to prevent this (a la L...

Re: Marek Euro 2008 watch

Looking on the bright side of this:

1. This must reduce the chance of anyone coming in for Marek before the transfer window closes.
2. It ought to focus the minds of Hammond/ Coppell on improving our midfield.

Other than that, let's hope it's just a minor sprain and not more.

Leamington Royal Brum away - get our toughest fixture out of the way early on. Based on recent form should nick a draw at least.

what recent form?

Against Birmingham - draw away, win at home.

Clearly any result against Derby is no guide to anybody's 'form'.

Re: Fae gone to Nice

I fail to see how you can include Lita and Convey as flops......or seol for that matter. Convey - 1 good season, three bad. Yes, injury has had a part to play but that would be letting heart rule head in the argument, wouldn't it? I can see your arguments for others but not Convey. Had more than on...
