Re: World Cup 2018

Indeed. It's asking for a bit much but I would love it if NI & ROI both qualified. The first World Cup I really watched (to the point of obsession) was Spain 1982. ROI were still some years from qualifying for a WC (although we came extremely close that time, only losing out to France on goal-di...

Re: World Cup 2018

NI - Switzerland
Croatia - Greece
Denmark - ROI
Sweden - Italy

I thought that Denmark would be our best bet but we'll see. Still, happy to avoid Croatia & Italy!

Re: Who did you get in the sweeps?

I bought the last two tickets in the Sweeps in a pub I frequent - one for me and one for a female friend from Belgium (who wasn't present). I got Switzerland. She got Belgium. I admit I tried to bribe the barman into letting me swap but he wasn't having any of that.

Memorable International Debuts

Marcus Rashford's recent debut against Australia started a conversation in the pub the other night about impressive international debuts. By far the most impressive that we came up with (I admit it was not my contribution) was that of Dieter Müller. He made his West German international debut in the...

Re: Coldest away end in Football

Well, I live in Germany (have I mentioned that before?). January 16th 2010 (I think), I was at a game between Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Kaiserslautern and it was -14°C according to the 'big' screen. Game was stopped in the middle of the second half because the 'Lautern fans were throwing snowballs (r...

Re: Champions League Thread 2015/2016

Arsenal shouldn't be in this competition anyway - a shame for English football. Crystal Palace or West Ham would have a much better chance against Barcelona. Tbh, that's the sort of bitter stuff I'd post ( and mean it). Hi Starfers btw, miss you. Well, I was paraphrasing (and teasing) one of your m...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Solid presser from Jurgen the German, calls himself the normal one and says "it doesn't matter what people think of me on my first day, it's what they think of me on my last day" .....which, unfortunately, will be under a cloud following his sacking in 12 months times. Car crash of an app...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

As alluded to earlier in the thread was present at both Poland Germany and Poland Scotland in the past week. Quite how the Germans didn't beat Poland having dominated all match. Szczesny was impressive in both matches. Was impressed with Scotland midweek Strachan tactically got it spot on for large...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

The cut of your jacket is a bit tight if I'm being very critical. Thanks for your concern NFA. The mistake I made was wearing too many layers beneath the jacket - heavy pullover, Ireland shirt and etc. And I was really not prepared for the cameras. With over 50,000 there, I didn't think I'd be spot...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

LOLz, you're looking a bit simple there fella! I think (hope) you are confusing me with a bloke in the bottom right of the screen after 25-30 seconds. I come (lol) later in the video after a minute (bottom left, as said) with a cap and a scarf. And I look lovely. Thanks to Sanguine for his positive...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

Just spotted myself on this video too - about a minute in - I appear in the bottom left of the screen. I'm just about the only person not wearing a green top (I had one on under my (brown) jacket. One can almost feel my optimism. 8) http://livetv.sx/en/showvideo/211297_germany_ireland/ I am not at a...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

Well, that was fun. I kept telling the people around me that we should equalize as late as possible, and then John O'Shea (of all people) gets first to the ball. It was some jump around in the away end I can tell you.

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

Agree but Germany beat them 13-0 a few years back, we should easily hit 8 without breaking a sweat if we're up there as a big nation. Comparing the results of two different teams playing against (essentially) two different teams is not going to get us anywhere, is it? In qualifying for the last Wor...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

The Irish in Germany sounds like a terrific trip, will you not be going Starfish? I will be there, yes. As I posted above, I got my ticket (three, by mistake) this morning. It won't be a big drinking night for me, however. I know a journalist from the local newspaper who is covering the game and I ...

Re: Euro 2016 Thread

The RoI are playing Germany next Tuesday in Gelsenkirchen. I applied for and then paid for my ticket a couple of months ago - it was delivered by standard post this morning - five days before the game. Ticket cost me €60 (a good €10 of which was for postage - there was a 66c stamp) and I have been a...
