Re: The Local Journo Thread

This is all about the demise of local papers in general isn't it? Back in the days the Evening Post and sometimes the Chronicle were a must read for supporters as it was the only way to see pictures and full reports of the games. The EP had some good reporters in those days as well, Russel Kempson ...

Re: Rumour: Stephen Ireland

I think the marketing people at the club will be asking the Football League shortly to change our name to London Irish. Justification will be that we have more Irish players than the rugby team and that nowadays Reading is almost a London suburb.. The shame is that unlike in the days of Long and Do...

Re: Rumour: Stephen Ireland

I heard a rumour that when he got the job as Reading FC reporter he was forced to change his name by deed poll to Friday as it was thought Reading fans might like it due to the association with Robin Friday. Don't know if that's true though.

Re: Liam Moore to Brighton

If Moore left Leicester because he wasn't getting enough game time then surely he risks exactly the same scenario at Brighton as they have an established centre back pairing. If I was him I'd stay with us and retain his dignity. At Leicester it was clear he wasn’t in their plans (didn’t give him a ...

Re: Anyone For Chinese?

Don't know about rational, long in the tooth, maybe. I'm not a fan of venture capitalists but the days of football clubs being owned by the philanthropic local guy done good are long gone and his type are more prevalent in the game. However, Samuelson was not the cause of our problems but was left ...

Re: Anyone For Chinese?

Why, what's he doing in the picture? +1 My son wrote to Samuelson some years back, asking if Reading FC would in some way sponsor a charity trip he was going on. He replied with a very encouraging letter and a personal cheque from Mr and Mrs Samuelson. Now obviously he's a wealthy man, but he didn'...

Delighted the club have finalised this. Had a few clubs after him, good age, willing to learn and has qualities a captain possesses. Good eye for goal when at Barnet too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NzrXzp9z66o Although that eye for goal appeared to have deserted him at Barnsley where he failed t...

Re: RUMOUR - Andy Yiadom

A right back? Does this mean the club is going to take a gamble on whether Obita will regain his form and recover from his injury in time for next season or whether Richards will make the grade? That's one hell of a gamble as left back is a real problem position for us. Also think it means Gunter ma...

Re: Gourlay

In my view we need a wealthy foreign owner from a country we have barely heard of who has made money from numerous legally questionable business deals. Once that person is installed they need a gimmick for the fans, some sort of hand or arm gesture possibly, to get everyone on side.

Re: BFTT Cardiff

We were mediocre at best. However, it was first, an improvement and second, enough. Vague sense that the defensive job in the midfield was enough but no one further up the pitch were doing anything but heavy running against a pretty solid backline. Job done, I guess. We were set up to play defensiv...
