Re: England 2018 World Cup poll

Yep, Hendo's got it back to front, unless he thinks England will win the group I think he meant that if we win the group we'd play Brazil in the 1/4s and then Germany in the final. I was just putting Brazil and Germany out there as out two 'likely' quarter final opponents depending on where we fini...

Re: England 2018 World Cup poll

IF things go according to seeding/reputation/some kind of footballing logic then I think we'd end up with either Brazil or Germany in the Quarters. I think that's probably as far as we can expect to get considering their squads. Having said that, I'd still fancy us cause a bit of an upset and beat ...

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/05/22/zlatan-ibrahimovic-sent-slapping-opponent-face-following-var/ Good example of VAR working well, in the MLS - referee finds Michael Petrasso and Zlatan on the floor clutching various parts of their anatomy after a coming together, reviews the video and...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Also, Pellegrini gone to West Ham for £7m a year, which is less than half what he was on in China!!!! Would love to see it all kick off at West Ham again this season That's an amazing amount of money for West Ham to be paying a manager. It's not far off what Wenger was reportedly on, IIRC, and the ...

Re: World Cup 2018

Not a fan of strikers being captains but the options are fairly limited. Would probably have gone with Henderson due to him doing that job for Liverpool but not that fussed either way. As long as he isn't on free kick duty its all good! Who do we have for free kick duty though? Rashford, Dier, Youn...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

+1 Stoke are in a much better position than Derby to make a challenge for promotion. I don't think Stoke are going to be another Sunderland. Rumours are that Derby are going to have to cut their wage bill, which I am sure that is something that GR isn't looking forward to, plus their owner seems a ...

Re: We're ManchesteROFL United, we do what we want

I totally agree on Mourinho being an issue for United and their young/flair players. That’s an ongoing thing throughout his career isn’t it? He builds functional winning teams that rarely excite. It’s what United, foolishly IMO, signed up to when they gave him the job. I also agree, to an extent, wi...

Re: Thatcham Town FA Vase Final

Seems strange that a Trade Union Council would want to own a football club, well away from where they are based. It was tied in with running the bars, and/or security, at the Festival. When they lost the contract for the festival it made the football club and it's facilities surplus to requirements...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Managerial Merry-go-round currently has Allardyce Pardew Carvahal Moyes Holloway So I reckon that would be Moyes back at Everton Allardyce at Swansea Pardew at QPR Holloway at West Ham Carvahal probably in Spain Throw in Rafa playing games with Newcastle and potentially being courted by West Ham (w...

Re: England - the future....

and it's untested and unproven at the back which is a bit of a concern. Made this point earlier, but it's a defence that has conceded just once from open play in eight games, including clean sheets against Germany and Brazil, and just that penalty against Italy. I did see that. I'd argue it's only ...

Re: England - the future....

Walker is there to play centre half? You keep more current than I do I suspect but that would really surprise me. He played the last two games there and excelled. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to someone willing to lambast the manager for his selections really... . Quite the opposite I’d h...

Re: England - the future....

I do not believe that either Young or Delph would have been selected for their potential contribution to the midfield alone. Young is presumably there as one of the two left wing backs, and probably rightly so on this seasons form. Delph is there as a midfielder, and selected over Livermore as one ...

Re: England - the future....

Absolutely laughable. 6 full backs and no creative midfielder. Please tell me it’s a joke. Wilshere may not quite be the player I want him to be but he has proved his fitness, and has had a decent enough season. And then there’s Shelvey who has been in blinding form. It could be said that both Wils...

Interesting, although probably irrelevant, the FA squad does list Delph as a defender.

Re: England - the future....

As above, pretty happy with the squad. Are we not heavy on defenders though? You've got Maguire, Stones, Jones and Cahill as centre-backs, and Walker who can play there. Then you have Walker, Trippier and Alexander-Arnold who can play right-back, and Rose, Young and Delph. Surely we could have lost...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Allardyce stopped them from being relegated and they are the 8th best team in the country currently. Who is to say that he wouldn't have brought in flair players this summer to help improve the style of play? Errr, anyone who's heard of him? To be fair to him Allardyce had quite attractive and effe...

Re: England - the future....

I like Southgate. He clearly has a plan going forward and hes looking to pick players on form rather than reputation. England won't win it but I think QFs and a squad for the next 8 years taking shape would be an excellent return. As long as they give it a go and don't play with the inhibitions of ...
