Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Not sure about this golden generation stuff. The Euros 2016 were superb but the failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup Finals was a blow. Only taking one point off Ireland in the two qualifiers was simply not good enough. We should have topped the group in all honesty. All those draws and failur...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Shaun Maloney is the new Belgium assistant manager. Would like to hear how he goes about training Kevin De Bruyne. I hadn't realised Maloney had been with Belgium for the last couple of months as a coach/assistant. Quite an interesting move. As for coaching, well he's got a better playing pedigree ...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Just on a side note if Gareth Bale had chosen to play for England instead of Wales and had the career he has had would you be saying it is a shame he chose us or would you just enjoy the fact he did? I'd love for him to have been English and played for England yes. But he's Welsh, so he should be p...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Harry Wilson looks like he's going to be a major player, shame Wales got to him before England did really. Not really a shame at all, he's Welsh and should play for Wales. For the record, I believe England did get in touch with him and see if there was a chance he'd play for England but he, rightly...

Re: England - the future....

You genuinely don't see Pickford as head and shoulders above the rest? Thought it was a universally accepted thing. Would agree that he is the best of the group available though but I'm just not quite convinced he's the final answer at the moment. What we need is some kind of goalkeeping expert on ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Reading City are another example of a Reading parks side who made the step up (before the rebrand of course). As FoC says, the main issue would be ground requirements and all the hassle around meeting those. I’m pretty sure YM are just happy playing where they are. The players are generally at that ...

Re: England - the future....

I'm still a bit cynical of the whole premise of the Nations League, but I have to admit the competitive nature of last nights fixture was an absolute bonus. There's very little chance that it would've been as strongly contested if that was just another international friendly.

Re: England - the future....

It's one result against truly top level opponents so we shouldn't get too carried away but what was pleasing was that you can see there are plenty of areas to improve on and that this side is young enough to develop in those areas. Cautiously optimistic about the future. Agree with the rest of your...

Re: England - the future....

Not about Rashford, but this article is a good one about how different players might find things with England, and to an extent could apply to Rashford in many ways too. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/10/15/isnt-raheem-sterling-good-england-man-city/ I think it's a good summary of Sterlin...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Italy getting a last second winner away at Poland. Italy look like they are on their way back, Mancini getting their shit in order. On their way back? A last minute win over Poland on the back of a 1-1 draw with Ukraine. Not sure I'd see that a great progression, it certainly wouldn't be sold that ...

Re: England - the future....

Very difficult to judge our performance on Friday in the false atmosphere but regrettably once again Rashford has shown that he is not the finisher that we all thought he was going to be-what a couple of terrible misses. I have said for a while that I don't think he's as good as the hype...you lot ...

Re: England - the future....

I would agree that we played alright on Friday and should probably have walked away with a win. Most of the post-match stuff I read at the weekend was about the circumstances of the game and Sancho making his debut off the bench. I saw little actual reporting or opinion on the game tbh so I’m not su...

Re: England - the future....

So the probably team has become the actual team.

Interesting to see the shape that 11 set up in. Could just as easily be 4-2-3-1 as 4-3-3 and has a bit of flexibility to switch around during the game, something they were criticised about a bit during the summer.

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Snodgrass...Probably the best Scottish player... Really? Ye. That's how dross they are. Who'd be your pick? Clearly the one who played a significant part in his side getting the Champions League final and being one of the best sides to watch in the country (if not Europe). I don't think the...

Re: England - the future....

Meanwhile, back on the topic of the thread... There's some suggestion that Southgate may try a different formation this evening. The implication being that it'll be a flat back 4 with 3 upfront (Rashford, Kane and Sterling). I've seen a few suggestions that that will also mean a midfield 3 of Dier, ...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Robertson does a very good job for Liverpool offensively. Im sure he could easily play wide midfield for Scotland and give them options going forward. Agreed, that would possibly be the obvious way or doing things. Robertson's crossing is excellent, but I guess the worry would be that he is so effe...

Re: England - the future....

I have seen Sessagnon a lot too, enough to base an opinion on him. Fantastic at Championship level but Premier League has come way too quickly for him, mainly physically. He needs to get a bit more built in his upper body, not sure if he is already doing that or not but its vital to his development...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Scotland were utterly hopeless. How has James Forrest not started? Why is Kieran Tierney a centre back all of a sudden? I predict Mcleish will go down as one of the worst managerial appointments in their history. Clueless old dinosaur. Two of their best players are left backs, and I think Tierney h...
