Re: We're ManchesteROFL United, we do what we want

Mourinho was a manager of his time. He arrived with no baggage, spend outrageous sums of money (for the time) and with it acted like top dog, swaggering around offering put downs and one liners all over the place, he was the media's darling and he was a winner. Others caught up financially, he went...

Re: The generic transfer thread

On the subject of goalkeepers, I'd like to see Chelsea pull their finger out and give Butland the chance at a big club. Until that happens we won't know quite how good he really is (for my money he's still better than Pickford, albeit not as good with the ball at his feet).

Re: The generic transfer thread

Just think he has seen a massive decline in the last couple of years, that Torino move was his chance to start again but both there and West Ham he let himself down. Happy for him to prove me wrong at Burnley, mean him no specific harm or anything just annoys me how he has let his career go the way...

Re: The generic transfer thread

Hart's problems started before Pep instigated the whole distribution issue bandwagon. He was dropped by Pellegrini when he lost a bit of form and his decision making seemed to be letting him down (everyone seems to forgot this). Before that, and since in a less consistent way, Hart was an excellent ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Id expect Flackwell & RG City to contend with one of the more westerly clubs maybe RWBT or B&T. ...Tonight I'm off to see what the new regime at Scours have provided on the pitch. Quite a regulation win for City by the looks of the scoreline. How was if FoC? I'm assuming it was completely d...

Re: We're ManchesteROFL United, we do what we want

Mourinho certainly appears to be lining up the excuses to save face if United struggle. I can absolutely see the wheels coming off and him being out the door before Christmas. I can also see a situation where he uses the obvious issues to build the good old siege mentality and bore their way to a de...

Re: The generic transfer thread

Ben Gibson goes to Burnley for £15m. I think that’s a good move for club and player. Dyche gets a good tune out of his centre half’s so Gibson could push his way back into England contention if he has a good season. Can't see him playing much tbh. Mee and Tarkowski seem to have the 2 spots pretty w...

Re: CONFIMRED - Sam Walker

Could a manager really go into a season with Shortwood or Ward just one injury away from being number one for months? I'd say no myself. So an OK keeper in League Two who is 6 years older deserves that responsibility over two younger players who were exceptional one league down? Walker is as much r...

Re: The generic transfer thread

I've just read this morning that Harry Maguire has gone to Leicester for £17m !! That's pretty mental even if it is £12m upfront with the rest in add-ons. Looking back at that now, I'd have to say £17m is looking like a pretty good deal and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a a very healthy prof...

Re: CONFIMRED - Sam Walker

Pickford was the same age as Ward when he started breaking through at Sunderland as first choice, and one year older than Southwood. We're being ridiculously conservative again. Pickford broke into the team because he was that good though. Of course Southwood could be a real talent too, but realist...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

I remember Stacey playing right back at Reading on quite a number of occasions as it happens. A bit like Murty before him perhaps. I was disappointed that he was let go and not given a bit more of a chance though. A lot of fans probably rated Fosu higher than Stacey because of that cameo at Derby. ...

Re: RUMOUR - Sam Walker

It's just frustrating that we have a brilliant academy yet we're not utilising it to the best of our ability. We've let players like Fosu and Stacey go for free (barring any compensation), Fosu contributed to quite a few goals at Charlton last season and Stacey has reportedly been subject of a bid ...

Re: CONFIMRED - Sam Walker

I think with Hector, I was comparing to the likes of Pearce who, at the same age and younger was playing more regular football at a higher level (if memory serves...). Hector floated around a number of loans and didn't really stamp his authority on them. He was in and out of the teams and being shun...

Re: CONFIMRED - Sam Walker

Perhaps it's just that they're not good enough? You're comparing them to some very very good goalkeepers there who played at the level they did at early ages because they're outstanding. I remember having a similar conversation about some of our other youngsters, Hector being one, that they weren't ...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Some of the goalkeepers we've had since McCarthy who were on the fringes: - Simon Locke - now a Southampton goalkeeping coach. The same age as Walker! - Jon Henly - signed for Ipswich after we released him, but never made an appearance and now plays (or doesn't play) for Hemel Hempstead. - Dan Linc...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Well that's not too shabby a record I think for players that have been in the Academy. Whats the full list of Academy keepers that have left in the last 10 years and how many of them were highly rated at the time. It's not bad no. To be honest I hadn't realised that Moore had managed to make it as ...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Yep, letting Stacey go was just plain stupid. Was Fosu not considered better at the time? I remember football manager quite liking Stacey a few seasons back. Stacey was considered a Right winger not a full back at the club, the path at RW was blocked by quite a few and even if he switched to RB, he...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Actually, I'm probably being a bit harsh in discounting McCarthy as he was probably young enough to count. Given he joined the academy at 8 I'd hope he would. I meant because he'd graduated from the Academy before the last ten years. As I said though, I think I'm being pretty harsh in excluding him.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

its an interesting one, as one thing we do seem to be churning out at the moment is good young keepers Are we? How many that we've produced over the last 10 years are playing league football? Hamer & McCarthy spring to mind. Andersen went back to Denmark and plays for Brondby still I think. Stu...
