Re: Dave Bacuzzi

Very sorry to hear this. He was outstanding in his day.
You will notice that I had him at right back in the best X1 in your lifetime (excluding 106) thread.
Definitely the best right back I have seen at Reading. Back in that era we had Colin Meldrum at left back, who was also outstanding.

Re: Ray Hiron

I also remember a game against Aldershot (a cup tie, I think?) when we had none of our regular centre backs available. Ray played that game in central defence, alongside a young forward who had not yet broken into the team, namely Mark White. The veteran and the youngster, both playing out of positi...

Re: Ray Hiron

I was at Fratton Park early in the 76/77 season when Ray, now playing for us, hobbled off injured, to a massive ovation and chanting of his name from the Portsmouth Faithful. I was at that game. Ray had been out with injury and should never have started but he was keen to play. As you say, he got a...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

So interesting takes from that - Loader and Olise probably not involved on Sunday - no Barrett - no Novacovic , so is he going to be involved on Sunday ? Either of the above 2 could be replacements or cover if Boye is outstanding - McLeary and Gunter not involved. To be honest I could understand no...

Re: Jack Stacey

Stam and his staff moved on Stacey, Fosu, Tanner and Jules because they felt they wouldn't make it at our level. All of them were under contract and could have stayed but accepted that it was better to move on. You could reasonably argue that the club got three right and one wrong. In Stacey's case ...

Re: League Cup 2nd round draw

Fond memories of a 2nd round 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road in September 92. One of the first signs that Mark McGhee was beginning to put together something special. Jimmy Quinn and Adie Williams notched IIRC. A biblical downpour flooded the away end and I was sodden by the time I got back to the car pa...

Re: CONFIMRED: Sone Aluko

If true then can we trust Tevreden going forward? Shocking value for money I reck there's loads of add-ons that bring it up to that price, but not up front stuff. Remember that the Fulham guy is going to want himself to look good too, it's not like he's a disinterested observer. Probably 3-4 mill, ...

Re: Dave Kitson at the ex RFC players association thing

I know it'll never happen as he must be about 80 now, and probably happily living back in Ireland, but wouldn't it be wonderful to have one of these events with Charlie Hurley. Charlie, now 81, lives in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, - about a mile from me. I'm afraid I don't know the address or contact...

Re: In or Out? New poll.

genome One more match for me before I vote. Anything less than a win Tuesday then I'm Out.

This. Jaap has painted himself into a corner. I still hope he turns it around but he has no more leeway. Failure on Tuesday would mean an Out from me.

Re: Best loan signing

If you include loanees who went on to sign permanently in this thread (and I don't see why you shouldn't), Steve Death wins hands down. His loan spell with us before signing perm was unbelievable. A big +1 for this. If only loans that did not sign then I'm in the Matty Upson camp. This. Upson the w...

Re: End of season Magic Number countdown.

Realistically there is only any value in the magic number for us to make the play offs, i.e the difference between us and 7th (currently Fulham, of course).
So the magic number for play offs is 27 and will hopefully reduce rapidly after Saturday.

Re: Loan Watch 2016/17

Jules is primarily a left footed centre back but he has played several games at left back for the U21/3s, when we have had plenty of centre backs available but no left back. He is well thought of at Reading and is certainly a big lad. Time will tell but it wouldn't be the first time we have loaned o...

Re: Back from the January Transfer Window Sponsored by Yermas Dildo

Agree with the sentiment of the OP. We made 11 signings in the summer and 8 of those were good or have the potential to be good. That's not a bad effort but the three mentioned have been a waste and it is a pity we couldn't have shifted them (even on loan) this window.
