Re: The phoenix club thread

Ascotexgunner We have Reading City as non League.
Got a nice little ground

Have they done it up?

I went there in the Highmoor Ibis days, and it was a grotty dump without a single redeeming feature.

Re: #SellBeforeWeDai (to someone fit and proper)“ supporters action group

We're chicken feed in the grand scheme of things. Dai clearly doesn't give a toss and the embassy/Chinese government won't either, not when he's got bigger and more serious charges hanging over his head back in China. If they want to pressurise him, they'll pressurise him for that, not what he's do...

Re: DJ Mega Party

If the choice is to win with Mega Party or lose without him.. See you all in League 2 Absolutely baffling that he was ever employed. Shocking goon. Just don't say it to his face. He's a karate black belt, or something like that. He got in the local paper in his teens, as someone tried to mug him, a...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

What I don't understand about this £1m shortfall is the following: Why does it magically stop becoming a problem next month? We knew Dai's commitment to the club at the start of the season, why didn't we budget better? How in the world can we be £1m short this month? I was under the impression we h...

Re: The phoenix club thread

Looking at AFC Wimbledon's rise, they had an insane multi season run of 78 games unbeaten as they won back to back titles. Not sure how fun that sounds; you need jeopardy and a sense of achievement. You'd just want to get through the 7th, 8th and 9th tiers as quickly as possible. After the last few...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

For the record AFC Wimbledon started with 3,500. So 4k home seems a reasonable optimistic expectation. It's difficult. We have a lot more fans than Wimbledon. We had more fans even in the Elm Park days. We should be capable of getting significantly bigger crowds than they did, or any other pheonix ...

Re: The phoenix club thread

Depends where a space can be conveniently found with least "disruption" so it would likely be tier 9/10. Bury and Macclesfield both started at Tier 9 (NWCLPremier) Bury started at 10, because they were playing outside their town, and had a few more question marks against them than Maccles...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

WestYorksRoyal AFC Wimbledon are the benchmark, and their attendances are at a similar level to the original club.

They had a decent ground to play in from the outset, which helps massively.

Clubs that have to genuinely start from scratch find it much harder.

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Lets say it was doable and we were able to attract 4 to 5k to games - it would essentially mean mothballing 3 stands until such time as the club felt it could sell enough tickets to make it worth operating them. I think people seriously understimate the support a new optimistic Reading club could h...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Have seen a few highlights of Bury games and it could be fun starting again but hard to see the positives. They of course do have a stadium that holds no more than 12k, so playing there is doable on crowds of 3 to 4k. Playing Ascot at the SCL is a non starter . I don't see why, unless we would stil...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

But if we're a lost bet with no prestige, why not accept £20m - £30m for us instead of going a route that leaves you with nothing? It's a lost bet either way, so may as well take a consolation prize. In truth, we have no idea how much is being offered, and admitting things are desperate by putting ...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

£5k down, £995k to go. It needs a handful of big hitters. We'll never get there with regular fans chipping in £20 or £50 each. We'd need to raise £70000 a day to hit £1 million by the end of the month. That's not going to happen. It makes you wonder what the supposed big expense is this month that'...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

This feels like he deliberately wants to destroy the club . I don't think that's right. If that was the case he could have just liquidated on a whim ages ago. I do think that he doesn't really care any more, and just wants to offload in the way that will maximise the money he can claw back. Well th...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Even Kieran Maguire said it was a 0.001% chance of ending in liquidation on the basis that we had too much going for us, and he's quite a skeptical person in these matters. But the chance is very real. People expect clubs to be saved because that's nearly always what happens. The big question mark ...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

And I don't really think liquidation makes sense either, it's definitely against Dai's financial interest. It would mean he could sell the real estate assets without having to fund the club in any way. Who's going to buy a studium and training ground with no sports club to pay rent to use it? And p...
