Re: Best (worst) own goals by Reading players

Mark White's own goal was executed in one of the first games I ever saw for Reading. It was terrible to watch. Whitey, however, went on to be a superb left back and Maurice Evans said if it hadn't been for injuries he would have played at the top level for his entire career and I agree. A wonderful ...

Re: BFTG - Arsenal

Absolutely awful for Feds. Can't imagine how he is feeling. Well done to everyone including him. I really thought we were going to get humiliated. There's a lot more to this team than I have given them credit for.

Kevin Keen

I do apologise if the subject of our assistant manager has appeared elsewhere, in which case please delete my post. However, does anyone know exactly what Keen's role is (in short, I'm saying that I don't really know what an assistant manager does or how much influence they have)? Keen comes with qu...

Re: Adkins -what next?

I'm not sure why people would say "not Dolan" (I'm not even questioning Adkins going). Reading has had a lot of success promoting from the inside and Dolan's record with "Reading youth" is outstanding: not a record that could possibly have been achieved without considerable skill...

Half time team talk demonstrates that claims Bullivant has "lost the dressing room" are, to say the least, premature.

Re: BFTG Charlton

I don't think I've ever read two completely different versions of the same game on the same thread quite as I have this morning. It makes it most confusing to get a handle on our performance for someone who lives several thousand miles away and can't get to games. Some seem to think "not bad at...

Re: What % of fans would disappear if we went down the divis

Mmmm...I agree that we won't see the premiership for some time. It's more likely we'll drop a division on current form. But I honestly doubt we would lose that many fans if future success looks an increasingly unlikely event. I started watching in the 70s and saw some really, really bad Reading team...

I thought this article by Gary Neville about how the art of defending is diminishing was worth a read:

Have Reading ever been a successful counter attacking team?

One of the reasons I liked the McGhee side so much was the occasional Wenger-resque ability to counterattack. Apparently in Spain counterattacking is practically a dirty word. I am hoping with Gareth, Jem and Williams back we may be able to attack and break away at speed. Right now we are as about a...

What's the text tatooed on Danny Willams' arm?

Williams seems to have a fairly lengthy piece of prose tattooed on his arm. Anyone know what it says?

Re: BFTG/OTWH Derby (H) 0-3

I don't think I have ever heard anyone be anything but practically in awe of how good Hughes is. It's amazing that he is still at Derby really. Kudos to him if he stays with Derby if (or more likely when) they get promoted to the Premiership.

Re: BFTG - Brentford

Oh dear, sounds like a dreadful performance. The post-match analyses could have been written for so many of the games I attended in the 1970s and 80s but then we kind of expected it and, with a few exceptions, most of the players then would by their own admission never have been good enough to perfo...

Re: Team for Fulham (h)

Norwood and Kuhl sounds like a good partnership to me: potentially. I really hope they are given a decent run together. I don't think we will get promoted this season and, to be honest, I kind of hope we don't. For me what would be a wonderfully successful season would be if the academy products wer...

Re: Who Goes? McCarthy. Confimred.

On the subject of Gylfi he is getting some pretty gushing praise for his performance - well, on the BBC anyway - for Swansea yesterday. We all know how good he is and I think, and I really, really hope for him that this season he proves just how good he is and how well equipped he is to play at the ...

Re: Federici - the best keeper in the Championship?

Well, I dunno, I'm no expert but that looked like an outstanding save to me regardless of whether there are plenty of keepers who would have made it. There are also plenty who wouldn't have done so.
