Re: Unhappy Chairman

I talked about things 'on average' - Spending a lot doesn't mean you'll get a bad player, it doesn't mean you'll get a good player and if there's no real correlation only a fool would spend lots!

Re: Unhappy Chairman

our record signing is £2.6m, for a player that was TBH honest a bit crap. In a sentence, you have proven why our chairman has -kind of - the right approach. RFC have had tremendous success buying players for little money and turning them into great players (Kitson, Doyle, Long, Sigurdsson, Shorey, ...

Rumbelows Sprint Challenge

If it was held this season, who'd win it?

Money would have to be on Theo Walcott, but Gabby Agbonlahor and Javier Hernandez might have a say. Maybe Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale too?

I seem to remember it was 100m, 60m would make more sense to me...

Re: Centre midfield

It's a fair point Ian, but Sidwell has since scored 3 in 45 for Villa and 2 in 20 for Fulham. (1 in 13) Leigertwood scored 13 in 131 for QPR (1 in 10) so its as much about the team they play with and the role they play as whether they are capable of scoring. I dont think the two are that different, ...

Re: Centre midfield

Our most successful midfield pairing was Sidwell and Harper and I don't see why Legs and Karacan should be much different (just a bit inferior). The issue is that Doyle, Kitson and/or Lita were 10x the players that ALF, Hunt and Church are. Furthermore, Murty and Shorey Vs Cummings and Mills or Kebe...

McCarthy - what the Leeds fans say:

MOTM - McCarthy. Kept us in the game, especially first ½. Excellent saves and positioning. Commanded well.

Voted for the half way line effort - seems the Palace fans have mobilised well for this

Great to watch the blue and white hoops at all levels!

Right, keep the offside rule then :D

What about taking the free-kick or throw in to yourself then?

Re: Throw ins, Free Kicks and Offsides

No, because the forwards will still be marked, meaning the pitch is less congested and less reason to bypass the midfield. Well, thats my prediction.

Throw ins, Free Kicks and Offsides

I watched a game of field hockey on the weekend, a sport that used to be painfully cat-and-mouse, painfully stop-start. They have abolished the offside rule and allowed players to 'pass' dead balls to themselves. So much better! So, can anyone give me a good reason why football shouldn't follow the ...

Re: Isn't it time we ditched FIFA?

Completely understand FIFA's position on this. If they allow this it would open a whole can of worms. How about Bosnia wearing something commemorating the Srebrenica massacre? Or Rwanda commemorating the 1994 genocide? I just think it's not up to FIFA to adjudicate on these things and they're quite...

Re: Loan Watch 2011-2012

It will be good for McCarthy and therefore probably for Reading fc but my main concern is what if he makes man of the match performances to pick up valuable points that see them pip us by 1 point into 6th? The bigger concern for me is who he might impress if he has a few good games and looks the pa...

Re: RUMOUR - Andersen to Brondby

What a GREAT move for Reading. At the moment we have a young keeper who is stagnating in the Reading reserves, and another who is stagnating on the training pitch. At least now McCarthy can go and get experience; he'll make a few mistakes which we won't have to make for us and he'll either come back...

Re: RUMOUR - Andersen to Brondby

Andersen or McCarthy should go to Leeds for a bit, they're both better than what they've got!

"Hard place to come"

McDermott called Selhurst a difficult place to come and get points at. I'd just heard Pardew saying the same about the Britania. In fact, virtually all managers say this about all clubs. So when exactly, other than in the cup playing a team 5 leagues below them, would a manager say 'It's an OK place...

Re: Derby, see you next Tuesday, at home - predictions

personally speaking, my ridiculous predictions are a protest about the inherrent daftness of all football predictions- theyre all a banal waste of bandwidth, and also they rile against the general negativity prevalent on the boards. i say Bah! to you sir and Pah! Spot on Melonhead, I seemingly misj...

Re: Derby, see you next Tuesday, at home - predictions

78-0 le fondre 70 church 5 manset 2 hunt 1 That's a goal just over every minute. Not sure if that's physically, mathematically or emotionally possible. HTH not sure why I am even contributing to the 78-0 prediction which is a complete waste of bandwidth, however, 78-0 is nothing compared to the big...
