Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Zip We used to sing “ C’mon you Royals” when we got a corner. Rarely hear it now.

We used to think we had a decent chance of scoring from corners back then.

Re: Finance

It’s going to be really interesting to see what football looks like after all of this. A salary cap as others have suggested would be welcome...say £2k a week in the Champ. We might struggle as players would likely pick more fashionable clubs than us, but it would sort clubs out financially. How wo...

Re: Finance

If a load of clubs do go under, and taking into account the likely impact on TV (and other) revenue streams (after all, if we have 3 Million unemployed, football season tickets may not be a high priority to many), then I would suggest that this would be the perfect time to do a reorganisation of pr...

Re: Finance

How come there isn't uproar that non-playing staff at Reading are being furloughed whilst there is no change to players pay? Reading have been pretty bad to watch for most of the past seven or eight years, so unlike Liverpool and Spurs we don’t have many fans who still wet the bed. We also, unlike ...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Questionable whether they will ever come back - but I reckon 8-10 good results near the start of a season will bring them back. so that's a no to them coming back then. There are three things that typically bring people into wanting to watch more often Good results Entertaining football Good atmosp...

Definitely.

Can't blame a man for fishing here when it's so hard to go shopping. So easy too in this thread where seemingly anything goes.

Re: Finance

Except we don’t have any meaningful debt (the sort that gets you wound up by HMRC) and we’ve not circumvented rules. If we had circumvented them we would be in trouble. We’ve found ways to organise our finances so we aren’t breaking the rules. I would suggest clubs who go into administration to avo...

Uke We’re fûcked

But imagine how fûcked we’d be if there was a recession about to hit

Nah...we'll be fine.

The hyper-inflation caused by the busted economy will make that debt the equivalent of the price of a Twix by the end of the year.

The club have already said buses will be free.... whether the cost of a matchday ticket goes up by £5 or whatever remains to be seen! I used to get an urban bus, I now get the Park and Ride from Shinfield Park - Drive there, park and get a bus straight away. I actually get home quicker than when I ...

Re: Finance

They have said that they would rather simply put the cash into the club but aren’t allowed to do so. Which is utterly daft. FFP for the championship (and below) is entirely different to the top end of the game. It's meant to be a block to clubs getting into a financial mess at this level, not to st...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

FL has earmarked early June for resumption of the league season which will begin behind closed doors. https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/sport/18370070.efl-earmarks-start-june-season-resumption-behind-closed-doors---reports/ May or may not happen of course but that would seem to be the intention th...

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

Also "debt" has to be seen in terms of accounting. If you build a stadium, the same as if you buy a house, you aren't strictly in debt. This is because the money paid for the building is matched by that building becoming an asset. Similarly, you could argue that paying £5 million for a pla...

Hound Noticed some cricket teams have furloughed their players. Different world to top level football but maybe not dissimilar to Divs1 and 2

Some rugby clubs too. I know Northampton Saints did it.

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

I really hate the FFP rules. Ensures that today’s rich clubs stay that way. It stop billionaires buying success (which oddly didn't seem to be a problem when it was Italian clubs doing it in the past) but doesn't have too much relevance beyond the very top of the game. Much prefer the ability to pu...

One87One If you missed the state of our accounts from 2018/19, head over to Policies. Seems we've smashed another unwanted record.

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

I don't think you need salary caps. All you need to do if prevent clubs that are in debt from increasing that debt by signing more players. If there's one thing I'd love to have from the US sports, it's not salary caps, it's the ability to "cut" players from the squad. If unwanted players...

There's no magic solution of getting 'good' scouts or buying young or any of these cliches you read on here. It's not easy, but you need to recognise when you are doing it badly, and we are clearly woeful. The suggestions are that we are advised by agents, who will unsurprisingly suggest players on...

Are we currently reliant upon our owners to stay afloat? Definitely yes. Could we see a points deduction? Sounds likely. But are we turning a corner and putting this messy era behind us? So long as we can ride out the consequences, undoubtedly yes . I'm genuinely curious as to why you think that? I...

Re: What got you into supporting RFC?! And when you did who was your nearest team?

Robert Maxwell...well, sort of. I got into football, properly (as it actually paying attention to the football every Saturday) in the 1982/83 season. Growing up in Bracknell, nobody supported Reading. I don't mean that as in "hardly anyone". I mean absolutely nobody at all that I knew. Rea...
