Re: Ex Players

Sounds like they were only doing what Gomes did with some of the players when he got here. Interesting that the man who signed off on this "biggest contract of my career" is absent from this story. I know it doesn't fit the HNA? narrative but could it be that Clement and Tevreden were try...

Re: Ex Players

Don't think Joey comes off as particularly arrogant here, but he is Dutch, and they don't pussy-foot about. He's just saying what he thinks. Interesting how he reckoned training under Scott Marshall was better than training under Clement, who is supposedly a good coach - I'd say he and Clement neve...

Re: Ex Players

https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joey-van-den-berg-lifts-16245811 Few words from Joey here. From reading that, I'm not sure who's the biggest arse out of Clement and Joey. He seems arrogant in this interview but then it was senseless from Clement to leave it that late to te...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Agree with this. There are plenty of players we can move on who are barely involved in the match day squad. These two may not be automatic starters but they play a part. They are highly experienced. We need balance. It can't just be about bringing in our academy players alongside three or four seni...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

I think it’s down to both players to decide as both are still under contract. Gmac’s is 32 in a few days and Gunter turns 30 this July. Do they look for one last move this summer, or do they stay and contribute both on and off the pitch and then leave on a free in 12 months. Or does the club recogn...

Re: Meaningless Stats and Trivia from 2018/19

Thought I'd update this for the season just gone. Based on the PA text commentaries over the season, Andy Yiadom committed the most fouls in our League and Cup games with 60. Meite was second on 45, and Swift 3rd on 40. Strangely, (if PA is to be believed), Yiadom was also our most fouled player wi...

Re: STs for season 2019/2020

I see the club will have a new online "ticket office" website and we'll all have to register and create new accounts after it goes live on 16th May in order to be able to buy online. New system as well for buying club shirts etc. Considering the hames the current crowd made of the Comic R...

WoodleyRoyal does this leave us gingerless?

Surely we have some coming through the academy? This cannot happen. Would Alex Fernandez come back and play for us for peanuts?

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Hendo Shame, I liked him, plagued by injuries last year just when he was hitting his stride.

The goal v Norwich on Boxing Day was brilliant.

Yeah, he never got a chance really to show what he could do in an injury-free run. Hope he finds a decent home.

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

Did anyone ever get their scarf? I didnt get mine.. Had totally forgotten about this. No, I didn't. I went way back through my emails and they sent one saying we had to collect it at the ground or use a code to get it sent to us. Completely missed that. Shame. At least they did something good with ...

Re: RFC to become the 4th...

We have a new kit every season, so might as well. I guess it will be the first one, but with a Carabao log on the front http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Reading/Reading.htm Alternatively, they may just opt to use a more traditional Elm tree badge or even design a new one-off badge? Will they do the ...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Denver Royal Yep:
Bought Mannone 4.9m, Sold for ?

Ok:
Bacuna bought 1.7m , sold 4m

Figures in $.

Obv wages are a factor. As does how many mins they played.

Where does $4.9m for Mannone come from? I thought it was about £2m, which would be less than $3m. (Bad enough, all the same!)

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Missing Ilori there and sceptical on 8m for Bacuna. Was widely quoted as £3m To be honest the only really bits of bad business were Aluko (again it’s doubtful that Stam ‘didn’t want him’ (though maybe not first choice) and Mannone. Have to add their wage packets into it as well The other part of co...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Rewind 12 months ago and people were probably saying similar things though. What happens if we are in the exact same position in 12 months time and finances are still tight? When can you say enough is enough of just “getting through the line”. It’s said a lot but Stam and Gourlay are a bunch of clo...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Was it a bit weird that we gave a bloke with half a dozen starts for us a guard of honour and special presentation but didn't give a single mention to our club captain of 4? Years leaving in the summer? Even if people don't rate mcshane I'd still expect a bit of a send off, unless they're hoping to...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

That disappoints me. I wasn’t the biggest fan of cooper but in today’s climate, he’s surely worth more than 500k, especially considering he bought that waster Ilori for four million. Don’t really keep too much up to date with the finance side of things but it feels like we snatched at any offer for...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Zip Ian are you sure that wages are that much higher than income? I know things are bad but those figures are horrible.

Possibly even worse. It was £35.3 million and £17.9 million last year

Re: Next Season's Squad.

So if McShane, O'Shea, Jaakkola, Popa, JvdB, Gravenberch and Harriott all leave on a free that's gotta be 60-70k in wages freed up right? Add into that selling Kelly and Meyler and maybe another 25-30k in wages freed up? Would that really not be enough to turn the financial tide? Obviously there ar...
