Cardiff punishment

by andrew1957 » 22 Feb 2011 11:25

Seems we have been dealt with very harshly considering how rarely our players kick off.

No doubt Cardiff will get away with a stiff warning from the FAW and be fined a bag of chocolate buttons!

We had a similar incident last season, I suspect this is why

That's 106 of (1%) our season tickets.

Cash fLOLow - renew early folks.

That one second incident where the lump Parkin falls over in the last minute of injury time at Cardiff has pretty much cost us our season. A confidence inspiring win becomes a draw and feels like a loss, we lose our best player for three games (two really I suppose as he was out for QPR anyway) in which we drop probably 4 valuable points and now this.

You are right - I don't think I can ever recall such a season defining incident.

If the ref had dismissed Parkin's play acting - we would have gone on to win the game. We would have had more confidence, gone on to do well in the following games and could now be on the edge of the play offs. We will never know but it does seem that the luck has been against us all season.

It was a foul. Leigterwood punched Chopra. We panicked and caused our own downfall. Deserved.

The club shot themselves in the foot then didn't they! Relying on 1 player is never the way to go!

^^ This, basically. Dodgy decisions get given all the time, no point in whinging about it. We didn't defend the free kick well enough, he should never have scored from there with such a soft kick. Leigertwood let himself and his team mates down and we've paid the consequences. <end>

I am not disagreeing with any of the sentiments above but rather highlighting the fine lines between success and failure and the fragile nature of confidence and momentum. I stand by the fact I think, rightly or wrongly, our season turned on one somewhat dubious incident from which there was much fall out.

All that said I often wonder where we would be now if Curo had not scored that sublime equaliser all that time ago at Brentford to send us into the Championship. I would hazard a guess we would never have evnetually set foot in the Premiership as we did or even perhaps be in the Championship now. Fine lines.

I see that the Welsh FA are being slow in getting round to investigating Cardiff, and yet the FA have punished us already. What's their bloody excuse?!

EDIT: It's staggering when you consider the game was 3 weeks ago and the Welsh FA don't seem to have done anything.

Doesn't Leigertwood have to pay the £40,000?

The fine is for not controlling our players....unless Leigterwood has suddenly bought the club from Madejski I doubt he'll be paying it.

I do hope McDermott fined all those involved in both incidents though. I get the feeling he won't have done so though.

No it is a team charge. Failing to control 'players'

Yeah I didn't read the link until just now.

But, all those involved should be fined according to their involvement and that should equal the £40,000, that's what I'd do if I was the boss anyhoo.

Send the bill to QPR

Actually its ridiculously harsh given we didn't contest it and that it wasn't a foul and it ruined our season! Man Utd have a turnover 30 imes ours - this is the equivalent of them being fined £1,200,000.

Why don't we refuse to pay, go into administration and then have something to play for?

LOL if we had to go into administration over a £40k fine, there's defo something wrong!

I still think the players involved should foot the bill.

I hope they are fined for any acts of poor discipline. It won't be enough to cover the cost of the fine to the club though, and nor should it be really because the fine is for the clubs lack of control of the players (ie it's something the club should take some responsibility for).

I think the club will have maximum amounts they can fine a player for different things, with a PFA agreed maximum of 2 weeks wages for the worst transgressions.
