Leigertwood One Season Wonder?

by Sir Dodger Royal » 27 Aug 2011 17:08

It's all very well signing Alf but he is a goal hanger and nothing else. At present RFC are just not creating any thing in midfield. They are desparate for a creative midlfielder. Kebe is past his best and Leigertwood is a passenger.

On present form Reading are hurtling towards relegation. Limited investment and the players have lost interest. Things are dour and we should be thrashing teams like Hull who had no form what so ever. Get it sorted Donut. Four on the spin is a disgrace.

But then when you only spend peanuts you are lucky to get monkeys. Even Southampton offered £4 million for a player this season whilst the Royal sell Long and Mills for £10 million and spend just £1.1million.

What a joke outfit.

The point SDR was making is Alfie is a goal hanger. If you have no creative players then he adds little. At present the Royals have no flair players in midfield.

I am not convinced that Donut has a plan B to how the team team plays.

Yes he goes for a winner but boy do we need a midfield player in the centre of the park to drive things forward.

Plan B required but not the players!

what absolute nonsense. this is how we built a squad that went on to win the championship with a record 106 points!! and there's nothing cheap about 900k on this player and 800k on that player. pre-premiership we never got two players of that value in one summer!

where do you get all this rubbish? does it come naturally or do you work hard making yourself sound daft as a brush?

ref. leigertwood i do agree to an extent, but lets not forget he is a defensive midfielder and not an attacker. the problem with him and karacan is they both suit the same position. both are defensive busy bodies and not attackers, and i don't feel we should be playing both at the same time. having said that, who do you play in an attacking role?

i would bring mcanuff in from out wide and play him in an advanced attacking midfield position and then give either hrk or obita a regular start on the wing. we know from pre-season that obita has pin-point and consistant crosses in him. le fondre will eat that up all day long if he gets service like that!

Can't see Legs being dropped. Possibly Karacan though with Howard coming back into the side. Howard's range of passing is better than both Legs and Karacan. I'd put him back in.

Try watching his goals on youtube. There's a good mix of tap ins and Long-esque harrying in the middle of the park. But you're clearly the expert...

Well, you'd hardly be able to call our midfield lightweight if you did.

Listen boy in many ways you are agreeing with Sir Dodger. I am what they call a Totally Well Adviser Teamster and having been a supporter of RFC for the past 58 years I consider I am more than qualified to give an opinion.

So when you are qualified to be a TWAT then join the Club.

Hmm. Where's the third person gone?

You were however making a judgement of a player who has played 0 minutes for the club you've supported for 58 years and who I would be surprised if you've seen play. Thing is, we had a hatful of chances against Barnsley...

"Boy". Like it.

and reading have responded by reinvesting over £2m on leigertwood, gorkss and le fondre. not to mention the loan of bongani. you cannot seriously fault that. that's more than i expected. if you really hoped we would spend half the money we have recieved for players sold then you need a reality check.

*don't also forget that the fees banded around the newspapers for players we have sold are not accurate as the football club have confirmed. it might be a £6m deal for long in the paper but the fee is thought to be more like £3m with add-ons. vs our investment in the playing staff this summer and i think that's pretty fair for an average sized championship club who survive on 17,000 crowds.

Just pointing out that your original point was wrong. This wasn't how we built a squad that went on to win the championship. That year we started with a stronger team than the one that finished the previous season. This year we are much weaker.

you say that but my point to sir dodger royal was that we built a team on so called cheapo signings. doyle, long, shorey all less that 100k and probably written off by the likes of sdr when they arrived as well. sonko, ingimarsson, gunnarsson.. all again very low cost, free and in the £100k's. it's not about what you spend!
