You don't get much for £250 million?!

by strap » 23 Aug 2012 20:43

Great display last night. Dialysis nurses unable to fathom out reasons for fluctuating blood pressure!!!

Anyway, adding up the cost of Chelsea's 18 last night - comes to roughly 10 times what Anton paid to buy the whole of RFC!

I wonder how good we will be when FIFA/UEFA bring the in Financial Fair Play regulations!

In my world ANY pen against us is dodgy! Well Sporting Life describes Hazard as falling over Gunter's trailing leg, which doesn't exactly sound like a bone crunching challenge to me, plus Gunter wasn't even yellow carded.

If I can't be blinkered about RFC on this board, then where can I be?!?!

There have been much worse, but EH did go over quite easily. In the end, Gunter did offer-up the leg which enabled him to do his thing though. I've heard mentions that Hazard could be like Messi, but Messi doesn't go down that easily...

Why? Does Hazard take steroids as well?

People, it was a stone wall penalty. Gunter tripped him up. Wish we had grounds to feel hard done by, but we really really don't.

20 years ago you'd have been laughed out of the pub to suggest that was a penalty.

Unfortunately it's the world we live in where merely seeking to make contact with an opponents leg and falling over is deemed to be a penalty. So, in a sence, everybody's correct.

Agree with RWC.

Not sure what era Royal Ginger grew up watching football in but to call that stonewall is a shame.
I'd be more inclined to call it "Hazard notices defender's foot next to his and decides to body pop into the air as if he has been taken out by chopper Harris".

The worse thing is that today this is deemed a penalty.

It was definitely a penalty but Gunter didn't trip him up. Hazard saw the leg and therefore went over it as it was the best chance of getting a goal. It's gamesmanship. He could have easily stayed on his feet if he so wished.

As I say, still a penalty.

I understand the points about that not being a penalty in days gone by. I grew up watching football in the 90s when the change started (am 29) and it would have been a decent shout towards the end of the decade back then. By today's standards, there's no question. We've all seen far softer given on a regular basis.

You don't need a stats database to figure that one out!

You are seriously deluded if you don't think it was a stone wall penalty.

Disagree, the replays clearly showed that Gunter's trailing leg took Hazard's leg from under him. Hazard knew what he was doing, but it was a trip.

To get back to strap's point, though, it was a soft goal which says little about the relative merits of the teams, just like the other three.
