Extended-Phenotype Might go to John Lewis tonight and have a look at some, though inevitably a man with a box of dirt will jump out from behind the latest Dyson and want me to vacuum in public - an act that somehow feels wrong imo.

You've been asked to suck out the contents of a man's dirt box in John Lewis before?

Three times. One time when I was looking at a cordless hoover, then another time when I was just walking through the house & home section to get to the hifi stuff and the other time when I was tromboning this dude in the gents toilets.

Quite simply

McDermott's model - buy players, coach and motivate them to overperform against previous ability

Adkins' model - buy players, coach and de-motivate them to underperform against previous ability, whilst picking up numerous injuries

I think it's fair to say it didn't go to plan!

Sacking McDermott was an awful decision in my view with hindsight, sacking Adkins I'd the right one I think.

Both decisions made earlier than I expected, that I think are difficult calls and you can't really argue with under the circumstances.

I think this thread has been resolved for good now. What a terrible decision.

Not hiring him back marks the second incorrect decision.

Lets do another 175 pages on that.

I will personally always think of sacking NA as vindication for BM! (right or wrong it will help heal my scars)

Until someone comes in who achieves more than McD did when he was manager here, it will, to me, always be the wrong decision.

Not an unfair summary - particularly considering he wasn't given the chance again to succeed/fail at this level with us.

Has the club gone forwards since sacking Brian McDermott? I think the answer is quite clearly no.

Has the club gone backwards? I think the answer is quite clearly yes.

I suppose this leaves the question - would we have gone backwards more/quicker if McDermott had stayed? Obviously this is hypothetical but I very, very much doubt it.
