7th is the absolute lowest we can finish, which in itself is a fantastic achievement. Draw at Forest will see us finish 6th, a win 4th and theoretically give us an easier game in the play-off round of 16.

I assume, looking at the format, the home side will be whoever finishes higher up the league. Assuming that applies in all rounds, coming fourth would ensure a home game until the semi-final (if we got that far). If they're at the Madejski, I'd be in for them.

Even if we finish 7th, it would be an amazing season in a normal year, but given the number of players who'd usually be in the U21s were playing first team football this season - Dorsett; Craig; Ehib; Abrefa (latterly); Wareham (latterly); Vickers (earlier); Abbey (earlier); Carson (earlier) all spring to mind - it's incredible. New signings like Bindon and Elliott may have played a couple of matches as well.

Suggests we've still got a very strong academy set up, despite everything that's gone on off the pitch. I wonder if players like Jeremiah Okine-Peters, Adrian Akande, Charlie Wellens or John Ryan could come into the first team squad on a regular basis next season - those first two are both wingers, so could help resolve our problems there without having to sign anyone.

Tough one for next year - head tells me we need to bring in 3/4 strong div1 players

On the other hand it sounds like there’s some real talent in the u21 side - Carson, Ryan, Akande, Tuma etc - all could be worth a go

Guess it depends who leaves as well

And who is available on a free transfer. Some guy at the game on Saturday was trying to convince me that Devante Cole would definitely come to Reading if Barnsley don't go up!!

I think our objective for next season should be progression and not necessarily promotion (though if we over achieve great). If there are good free transfers available (e.g., like Smith, Knibbs and Wing last year) go for it, but otherwise we should be looking to our academy as there is plenty of talent. If we can make another 3 or 4 first team ready over the course of next season, the squad is stronger. Then in summer '25 with the embargo lifted, we can make a few key signings and really crack on at promotion.

With Clarke, Carson, Senga, Coke Miles Smith, Akande, Tuma, Ryan, Wellens and Okine-Peters, there's definitely a batch of youngsters who are close. Plus Camara, CBC and Wareham who have been on the fringe this year. Obviously they won't all make a big impact, but if Selles, Hunt, Bowen etc., can use pre season to identify the 5 or so who are the most ready and start them off in the Carabao and Pizza cups then hopefully they can kick on.

It's badly written on the PL website but it does look like the highest seeded side will be at home throughout - so yes, 4th would guarantee us a home tie in the round of 16 but not sure what happens next i.e. does it remain a seeded draw or is it a free draw i.e. we could get the #1 seed in the QFs and be away or the #10 seed and be at home.

I should imagine that the 8 play-off 1st round winners- we will know who we are home to by 9pm tonight- will just be all in the hat for an open QF draw.

From the Academy Twitter feed: it seems we’re battering them, but just haven’t got a goal.

It’s Bradley Hodge- and not a lot about him anywhere. Possibly interesting they he has been named for the several matches he has now played for us - so could he have signed ?

He's officially just down as trialist so I would say not.

Do we know where he's come from? Has he or is he about to be released by another league club, or has he been performing well in NL and we're seeing if he is a potential low risk/high reward punt?

I don't think clubs can register anyone new on a professional contract after mid-March(?), so we may have signed an agreement with him but cannot be officially completed yet.

Did we find out if it he was the guy from Hillingdon? The Hillingdon website lists him as a right midfielder, but doesn't give any further information.

Pretty sure it is the Hillingdon player.

Liverpool's website suggest their Round of 16 play-off will be played between the 3rd and 6th May. I'm guessing the play-offs are being played over the bank holiday weekend.

Looks as if match is at Bearwood on Saturday 4th May KO 3pm. In my opinion this could be incorrect as it only appears on fixture page- I would hope that match is at SCL stadium.
It also appears that if we win we are at home to the winners of the Fulham v Notts Forest tie.( to be played 10th-13th May.
Each club’s path to the final is mapped out below.

Last 16 (3-6 May)
Match 1: Spurs v Aston Villa
Match 2: Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Match 3: Arsenal v Man Utd
Match 4: Chelsea v Brighton
Match 5: Reading v Middlesbrough
Match 6: Fulham v Nott'm Forest
Match 7: Sunderland v Wolves
Match 8: West Ham v Blackburn Rovers

Quarter-finals (10-13 May)
Match 9: Winner 1 v Winner 2
Match 10: Winner 3 v Winner 4
Match 11: Winner 5 v Winner 6
Match 12: Winner 7 v Winner 8

Semi-finals (17-20 May)
Match 13: Winner 9 v Winner 10
Match 14: Winner 11 v Winner 12

Final (24-27 May)
Winner 13 v Winner 14

Middlesbrough game confirmed to be played at the Madejski on Saturday 4 May, with a 12:00 kick-off. Free entry to the Lower West.

I will be going to this, assuming I haven't forgotten anything happening that day. :D
