Interesting, I didn't think much of Williams tbh. Showed flashes, but wasn't overly impressed.. Sub Husin in for him and you'd have my team.

I like Husin too - very promising. I thought Williams and Shepherd linked very well and Williams had good pace...

Out of interest why/how is Henley better than Lincoln?

Very little between them. Henley didn't have anything to do saturday apart from pick the ball out of the net! I just think Lincoln is a bit small maybe. Actually, I think Lewis ward is better than both of them but that is another story

Andrija Novakovich scores against Chile U20s

Young Royals striker Andrija Novakovich came off the bench to score for USA U20s and help his country come from behind to beat Chile 2-1 on Monday night.

It took our 18-year-old just two minutes to make an impact after he was brought on in the 63rd minute, heading home a Zach Pfeffer cross to level the score.

Novakovich, who officially signed for the Royals last month, was impressive as he helped the US complete the turnaround and secure their first win of the 2014 National Training Center Invitational.

Andrija will be hoping to start for the States when they take on Bermuda in their second game of the tournament on Wednesday.

Just updated this with as much as I can on the new guys and squad numbers / contracts. Anyone know if any players moved on? Some players, Shaughnessy for instance, I haven't seen anything about so far (although I missed the friendly).

Louie Soares is an ex Royal isn't he? Also noticed another Owusu on the bench for Basingstoke, any relation to either Lloyd or Nana? Or is it Lloyd himself?

Slight change to the expected lineup, no Urbancic with Samuel staying on.

Strange that Samuel is with the u18s again and people like Sean Long with the first team?

This is the U21s though. It's just a particularly young team playing in the 2nd half, not heard of most of them.

But agree with the point you make though, given how light we are up top in the first team games.

Urbancic now on for Samuel. Apparently Samuel has been the best Reading player so far, be interested to know if anyone is there tonight and can verify that.

Oh, and it is Lloyd Owusu playing for Basingstoke.

Finished 1-0 to Basingstoke. I know we had a young team out there 2nd half but expected more really, even the Basingstoke Gazette said they were disappointing.

Second half performance much better than the first. Poor Mclennan couldn't do anything right in the first half, constantly giving it away. Really worried about Fosu, doesn't appear to have learned anything and you can see why he has been left behind while some of his contemporaries are around the first team squad. Owusu looks to be improving defensively but looked too tentative going forward when he had plenty of space to run into.

First half probably the two centre backs Dickie and Hyam which tells you quite a bit about how the game was played. Kelly and Hussin did Ok without really creating much other than some nice passes to the wings. Their problem along with the rest of the team was that they were taking too many touches so there was no tempo in possession.

Second, didn't recognise most of them, Samuel had a few nice touches but just looks like he's lacking something, although you could see where he had his knee problem as one of his legs was less muscular than the other. Urbancic looked tidy when he did come on which bodes well for the future.

Personally I didn't think anyone particularly stood out. Very poor performance, the passing was sloppy and their keeper was barely tested. Thought Samuel looked pretty ineffective to me.
