Give Feds a start I say - McCarthy has made quite a few mistakes lately.

Leave Drenthe free to run round like a mad man causing havoc behind Pog - although not sure he'll last a whole match like that.

Can't believe anyone would seriously contemplate playing Drenthe on the wing in front of Obita away from home.

McCarthy has made a few mistakes recently and might need a bit of time out of the team for a week or two, not just me saying it either. Adkins has under performed with a squad that should at least be comfortably in the play off places and just isn't a good fit for this club.

Sorry if I upset you Mr Gallagher. Now how about you address the point about Drenthe, a player who you claimed had a bust up with Crosby over his reluctance to carry out his defensive responsibilities, playing in front of Obita who isn't a natural left back?

-----------------McCarthy--------------
Gunter----Pearce----Gorkss---Obita
------------Guthrie---Williams--------
McCleary----------------------McAnuff
---------Pogrebnyak---------------------
-----------------Le Fondre---------------

Despite Guthrie and Williams not fitting right, I really don't rate Akpan at all. So as the midfield is shagged until Karacan, Legs or Baird come back, I say we bypass it all together, practically play 6 at the back and rely solely on bombing down the wings, but cutting in and getting it to Pog's feet rather than crossing.

Fatty Drenthe can come on for whichever winger is more knackered at 70 minutes.

I'm assuming McAnuff is unavailable.

Obita did just fine with HRK/Drenthe in front of him against Yeovil though, so I don't think it is a disaster if McAnuff is unfit.

Really? Thought it was one of his worst games at LB. Sloppy passing (three times he put simple 5 yard passes out of play), lucky a couple of times not to be pulled up for being overly physical jockeying the winger and almost got caught out in the second half when he over committed himself, ran under the ball and got turned easily.

10/9/8 against 11 it's an ok partnership because there really isn't that much of a test defensively but the idea of Drenthe and an out of position Obita playing 11 v 11 in an away match just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Obita had a shocker yesterday.
The little no 20 had him in his little pocket.

?

I thought the number 20 was the worst player I have seen in the championship, leaving Obita to spend every single second attacking.

Anyway

Think I'd go for a more counter-attacking shape with an attempt to control midfield better. Just to try and stop the rot and gain some more solidity. It also gives us something deadly to bring off the bench in ALF if necessary.

................McCarthy
..Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss, Obita
..........Williams, Guthrie
McCleary......Drenthe.....McAnuff
...............Pogrebnyak

Subs: Federici, Kelly, Hector, Akpan, Robson-Kanu, Le Fondre, Blackman

Then again, Brighton are likely to come at us rather than setting up for the draw and then getting lucky with an error like Yeovil and Blackburn did. Which may play into our hands better in exploiting space, rather than having to create it and having fewer bodies to have to get through.

Like McCarthy's form has anything to do with you putting up Federici as goalkeeper.

Have I been watching different games to everyone else recently? Pearce has consistently been the better of the centrebacks in the last two or three games.

Right now, on the keeper debate thread, you are displaying everything I parody in my posts on the issue. Namely, the excuses for McCarthy that you would crucify Federici for.
