winchester_royal Not completely convinced that this Edwards rise is anything other than a false dawn, but I very much look forward to being proved wrong.

I think this is classic "start playing well as soon as I write them off" stuff from Edwards. See also: Sonko, I; Long, S; Cummings, S; Karacan, J; Gunter, C; Williams, D

And when it comes down to it we have so few wingers (I make it four fit wingers on pro contracts and Lawal as the only second year scholar) that he's probably gonna play anyway.

I hope so. I really do. But he hasn't pulled up trees at any point in either his academy or professional career so unless he's progressed massively over the last 6 months I wouldn't expect too much of him.

Williams and McCleary out for the start of the season and Karacan not expected to make it till end of August either, and Guthhrie hasn't played one minute in pre season so far.

Assuming no one else leaves;

McCarthy

Gunter Pearce Hector Obita

Akpan Tish

Edwards Taylor HRK

Pog

Possible. With Ledge, McAnuff, Gorkss, Le Fondre, Bridge and Drenthe gone/going, having McCleary, Guthrie, Williams, Karacan and Blackman (ok so not him so much), out injured, we have had virtually an entire 1st XI ripped out from last year.

Let's hope we keep McCarthy, Gunter and Pog, or else we are going to be starting with a majority of last year's U21's.

It's all getting a little silly now. At least the defence has a familiar look to it (but after last season is that a good thing??).

Oh well, with expectatinos so low for the coming season, a top 10 finish will be considered a success, and a top 15 satisfactory!

My guess is based on the following assumptions

1. We will have to sell McCarthy while Phoenix go through the takeover process.

2. Guthrie will not be fit.

3. HRK somehow stays fit.

Federici

Gunter Pearce Morrison Obita

Edwards Taylor Hector Akpan HRK

Pog

Subs : Andersen, S Kelly, Cummings, Kuhl, Tshibola, Tanner, Blackman

I wouldn't be surprised if Samuel ousts Tanner for that place on the bench. NA doesn't appear to rate either of them yet and obviously Samuel is being frozen out of the first team pool at the moment but I think if the Samrit takeover collapses Samuel may well be promoted to join the squad.

HRK wasn't rated at Southend yet he made at which is probably about the same level as the A-league. So long as he has good coaching from Adkins he can easily make it.

Even if McCarthy isn't being sold , I really hope Adkins plays Federici on opening day.

Exactly, better all round keeper. Much better footballer. If he wasn't fat he could probably do a job outfield.
I'd go for;
Feds
Gunter Hector Pearce Obita
Karacan Kuhl
Taylor Williams HRK
Pog

I get the feeling Feds may well be Adkin's first choice keeper at the moment, there's been plenty said about Feds in pre-season, he's posed in the new kit whereas McCarthy seems to be hidden away.
