M Brook Over the past 40 years, would have to be a toss up between Parky and Bowman.

Bowman gets my vote.

Johnny Petts. In the same team we also had a great centre forward in Ron Tindall (also a county cricket player I think)

A few here have mentioned Gooding and I can't for the life of me imagine why he wasn't the first name that popped into my head. It is a mystery that Gooding never played for a lengthy spell at a higher level. Particularly mysterious as I imagine he would have been a manager's dream in many ways - an incredibly hard worker who played every game as if his life depended on it and he had no little amount of skill and an eye for a telling ball. One of my favourite ever Reading players. I would absolutely love someone like him in the current team - maybe Williams will be the one.

Mick Gooding,Richie Bowman leap out as the best creative prime drivers.
Friday (when he could be arsed) took the piss out of both teams and ran the whole shebang (including the local constabulary).
Parky deserves a mention for shifting play forward with utter contempt for health and safety.
Finally agree with billybraggsbeard that Kuhl looks to have the attributes to be our next shaker and mover in chief so long as Chelsea dont snap him up for their third XI just for the hell of it

Mick Gooding, the best central midfielder I have seen in my time following Reading.
Should have played at a higher level.

Reilly was the biggest load of shoite ever to pull on a hooped shirt
Clement was decent
