Who is going to have a breakthrough season?

by pea » 31 Jul 2014 10:47

Who do people think is going to have a breakthrough season, either a bit part player last year who becomes a first team starter or a player who has never really featured in the first team becoming a regular feature?

Edwards and Taylor obviously getting a lot of game time and the back four seems fairly comfortable with Hector and Cummings as solid backups. I had expected Tsibola (sp?) to have a big preseason but not heard him being mentioned much despite injuries

Hector. The Edwards escapegoating has already started, and JT is living off a shanked cross at the end of last season.

Akpan.

Can see Drenthe getting bigger throughout the season too.

Edwards. Like the look of him.

While we're here, Ryan Edwards has had his squad number changed from 36 to 17.

Edwards. Although I wonder what will happen with him when McCleary's back from injury.

Taylor probably too, Hector's getting an extended run in midfield in pre season so far too. Although that will probably also be short lived because Williams Guthrie and Jem will all be back soon.

One thing is for sure, we will see a lot of players gain their first team debuts this season, Stacey, Kuhl, Tanner, Griffin, Tish, Sweeney and Long will probably all feature at some point. Maybe against Newport in the cup.

Kuhl.
A word of caution-this time last year Ugwu was mentioned as a potential challenger for a first team place but one year on he has been rejected by Oxford after a trial.
The step up to the first team is immense and I wouldn't expect (but always hope) that any of the youngsters will make a breakthrough, excluding Hector who is now very much a first team squad player.

One day maybe HRK will repay the faith that the club has in him but IMHO he is running out of time.

Based on the Wycombe friendly, Blackman has the ability to tear the Championship up but whether he will or not is down to him.

Blackman.

I think a run in the team and a few goals will see a different player than the one who's performed pretty dismally so far.

Might start a campaign to get Ryan Edwards to get rid of his ratty beard. Who's with me?

He obviously has dreams of playing a musketeer at some point and is hoping he will get spotted......

It'll be Taylor. He's had a couple of forgettable games, but he got better and better at the end of last season. If he stays with that curve he'll have a huge season.
