CONFIRMED Jure Travner to sign

by Royal_jimmy » 25 Dec 2014 16:18

Looks like he is set to join us.

Hopefully add competition at left back for a poorly performing Jordan Obita!

Thoughts?

We'd be better off signing John Tavener.

If they're impressed enough then good, we need competition there. And he will have settled into the squad nicely already.

Thing is, Obita is still okay at LB. As a Left winger, which is supposedly his actual position, he has had a bit of a shit season so far. If this bloke comes in and simply provides competition for Obita then I suppose this is reason enough. But for me, I think we need to strengthen elsewhere before worrying about LB.

If he's good enough to displace Obita at left back, fantastic. If he's not then fine. We've at least got back up there, if he signs.

Apparently the Jure is still out on him.

Sorry but an LB should be one of the top priorities, as it should have been in the summer and in the last January transfer window.

We didn't have a January transfer window this year.

Fair points made but we still only have one left back here, and he prefers playing as a left winger, so arguably we need two left backs.. We do at the very least need one to come in asap.

All agreed, just waiting on international clearance. So exciting! St Mirren must be kicking themselves..

Is he any good though? This feels like one of those really underwhelming signings which may turn out to surprise us all ... hope so!

Isn't he about 26? He's played at a very low level in comparison to the Championship and not really made any headlines. It's a bit of a punt isn't it, but then we can't much else I suspect.

The only way I'm looking at this is that he's been training with the team for a long time, and that means that both adkins and clarke think he is good enough. So he must be decent back up for clarke to want to sign him.

OMG-29 years old-could'nt make it at Watford or in Scotland.

Surely not & please don't say give him a chance as its too late by then.

Bring back Brian McDermott as Chief Scout-he must know of someone ?

he is going to be on feck all wages, probably only offered a contract till end of the season, or at most one year on top of that. If we sign a lw that means obita can stay at lb for good, having travner as back up makes sense. especially if we have youngsters who could potentially be stepping in a year or two. I approve
