Huddersfield(A) Match thread sponsored by Clarke's breakdown

by Royal Ginger » 24 Feb 2015 19:11

Huddersfield: Smithies, Edgar, Hudson (c), Hogg, Butterfield, Miller, Walace, Robinson, Wells, Smith, Bunn
Subs: Murphy, Vaughn, LOLley, Gobern, Boyle, Wright, Majewski

Reading: Federici, Kelly, Obita, Pearce (c), Hector, Akpan, Norwood, Guthrie, McCleary, Taylor, Yakubu
Subs: Andersen, Gunter, Cooper, Chalobah, Mackie, Robson-Kanu, Blackman

So, genius, sad necessity or Clarke breakdown...you decide.

Well that's left-field. Taylor in from nowhere, ditto Guthrie, and Akpan on the wing???

Chalobah isn't cutting it for me, but surely better than Guthrie or Akpan? Bet Mackie is pig-sick too. Assuming Pog and Cox both injured? Just what do they get up to in training???

Akpan on the wing, what are you on about?

It'll be Mcleary and Taylor on the wing and midfield three of Akpan Norwood and Guthrie. 4-5-1 in defence 4-3-3 in attack.

This is qyuite drastic but probably necessary squad rotation, in response to how flat we've been mid week recently.

I doubt very much any of those not playing or involved are injured. Just rested.

It's a busy period so he's rotating the squad, not overly surprising, well except for Mackie's absence since he gets a free rest on Saturday.

As for positioning I would expect it's Akpan, Guthrie and Norwood in the middle, with McCleary and Taylor on the wings.

My only hope at this point for a genuine result tonight is that these players have been training together for about week using this formation.

*edit*

Huddersfield fans apparently equally confused by their line up.

I guess Pog and Williams had to have a rest sometime - they do an awful lot of our leg work. He's seems to have decided to do all the squad rotation in one go, and regard this match as a shot to nothing. Will be interesting, if nothing else.

Glad Taylor is getting a go (wide left, I presume, though would he be better as a central attacking midfielder ?). Surprised Mackie isn't getting another run out, though.

Guthrie and Norwood strikes me as an overly similar combo. If that goes well, will be surprised and pleased.

tidus_mi2 Mackie's absence since he gets a free rest on Saturday.

This is bizarre...considering McLeary isn't fully fit and would be massively up for tearing Forest to pieces...expecting him to play both games is odd...or a complete oversight on the fact that Mackie can't play against Forest...

Because they're being rested and won't play a part at all.

Rotating the squad in the positions that he can and in a game (away from home) that he will not get slated for doing so if it goes wrong. All those players on paper can play in the positions selected just unusual to see 6 changes of course!

Suspect we'll see Blackman get a fair chunk of time out on the right over the next couple of days.

Why should the fact that a game is away from home exempt a manager from being slated if he makes lots of changes and it all goes wrong?

No reason at all in theory but I think it is just generally viewed in the mind as lower risk. In any case this will be an interesting look for him at a lot more of the squad
