Doesn't look as if it will rain tomorrow so we might actually get something out of the game.

phil in cornwall Reading never win on a cold wet Tuesday night at a crap team in the north.

I'd love to be wrong.

Well if one treats Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb as "cold and wet", which of course is stretching things a bit, and if you consider any matches against teams north of Birmingham as being "north", then we have played 80 league and cup games since 1920 on a Tuesday in such conditions.

We had a sequence of 6 consecutive wins scoring 13 goals and conceding only 1 from 30/11/99 to 18/02/03. Our overall record for thsoe 5 months away to teams north of Birmingham isn't too shabby, although I concede our record at Rotherham needs vast improvement! :

Another half hour of my life I've wasted

You should have cross-referenced the dates we have lost with the historical weather archive to investigate further.

Poor. 2/10.

I throw myself at the mercy of the court your honour.

Any idea where one can get historical weather records going back to 1920, by region? (Only a semi-silly request!)

http://www.wunderground.com/ maybe although no way back that far.

I think Williams and McCleary should play, probably at the expense of John and someone else I haven't decided yet.

With any luck Rowan can get on as a late sub and bag his first goal for the club.

Great for SC to have so many options.
I think Williams will start.

Don't want to be the uber pedant here strap, but I reckon our sole Tuesday night away trip to Shrewsbury was my first ever away game (1987) and I'm pretty sure the attendance nudged over 2000.

Heaven on Earth has the attendance at 3,223  Tuesday 1st September 1987. Jo, Jo have a go scored in a 1-0 win.

Bloody awful game in shitty weather, decent finish from Francis Joseph after about 10 minutes with about 20 Reading fans in attendance. At least we got the covered end. My fading memory had me thinking it was 2200 odd. What I do remember from the Rothmans yearbook was that it was the lowest attendance in the division that season.

No problem, this sort of feedback is very welcome, a sort of self correcting feedback loop ... or something.

My 1287 must be wrong, (and I can't remember where I got it from).

HoE does indeed state it as 3445. The Definitive RFC by Leigh Edwards agrees with 3445. Bizarrely, the database ALSO has 3445!

After a bit of searching I discovered 28 Feb 1987 is a Saturday, and so isn't included in the chart above. The Tuesday game in the chart was on 4th November 1986 and was in the Full Members Cup - which I have included as a Knock-out Cup in the records - "we have played 80 league and cup games since 1920 on a Tuesday in such conditions [ie .Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb]". 1st Sept 1987 was a Tuesday, but outside the Oct to Feb window - although north of Birmingham in Sept could easily have been cold and wet!

Phew - I thought I'd buggered up the coding. But thanks for keeping me on my toes.
