Pointless statto questions

by Sutekh » 23 Oct 2015 09:34

Add them here .... can anyone answer?

1. Since subs were introduced (1966?) which Reading players have been substituted the most?
2. Who was the first substitute used/player replaced?
3. Which player has been Reading's most used substitute?
4. Which player(s) have been named as substitutes the most times but not used?
5. Anybody beat the 15 minutes or so it took the sub a substitute (Martin Williams I think)?

I would like to see former players goals against us and players we have signed who scored against us before they joined.

I think Stephen Hunt coming on for Booby Convey must have been one of the most common substitutions we made.

I seem to remember in the 05/06 season it was something like 30 times.

Harsh!

I reckon Brynjar must rank very high in the most used sub stakes.

Oh my. I hate typos as well. To avoid any confusion, I thought he was excellent.

What has Reading's mean, median and modal attendance been?

Lets say since they moved to Elm Park.

Noel Hunt coming on 65 minutes or so was very common

Shane Long had just under 2,000,000 sub appearances

What % of Adam Le Fondre's goals were when we came off the bench?

Dad and I were discussing in the car coming back on Tuesday that our record in south Yorkshire seems quite poor. We don't have an especially good record at Rotherham since 2000, I don't remember us winning much at Sheff Wed or Donny (although we did last time out). Barnsley I think we've won the last couple, and I think we've done ok up at Sheff Utd in our recent visits.

Do the stats agree with this? Are we quite poor in that little area of south Yorkshire? If you were to include Leeds and 'Uddersfield as well does that improve/worsen things?

I'm pretty sure we've never lost at the Keepmoat. Three or four wins and a draw, if memory serves me correctly.

It is quite correct to say we've never lost at the Keepmoat. P5 W4 D1. We only ever lost twice in 16 visits to their old ground.

We have only lost once at Barnsley in 8 visits since the 1980s, winning 6 of those.

Rotherham away, no win in 5 (2 drawn). Before that, only 1 defeat in 6 at Millmoor, so it seems to go in patches.

Only 1 defeat in last 8 trips to Brammall Lane (5 wins) since the late 90s.

2-2-2 for our last 6 visits to Hillsborough.

Prior to 2002, we'd never won in Sheffield at all in any competition.

So I'd summarise that, contrary to Brum Royals statement, we are probably more successful in South Yorkshire in the 21st century than in any other part of the country outside of the Royal County!

We are possibly thinking of the same incident, but what first came to my mind upon reading your question was an away game in the early 2000's against Cambridge, where Rougier was brought on as a substitue and then taken off again for being shite!

In fact, a quick read through the match archieves against said opponent and I have found it:
Cambridge v Reading (1-1), April 2001:
"There was a bizarre incident involving Rougier, as the substitute was taken off after playing for just fifteen minutes. Pardew clearly realised that Nicky Forster was better suited to the role of lone striker, so Rougier paid the price."

3. Which player has been Reading's most used substitute?

Jerry Williams. In the days of 1 substite, he was the ultimate utility player.

Not quite the right place to ask, but I've been wondering anyway - does anyone know how the Pog is getting on since his return to the mother-land? Is he staring and has he scored any goals?

5 start in the league, 1 in the cup, no goals.

Got injured but has recovered.

You can see from the picture how isolated he is and the fact he's had to pull wide to get the ball. Will no one ever learn to play to his strengths?

I recall someone - possibly Mark Giacometti (or similar) - coming on away at Bradford in c 94?..... seemed to be on the pitch for less than 10 mins until everyone in the ground realised he was really shit.
