Faithful Son
RoyalX It amazes me that people have such strong opinions on Chris Gunter, as I've always thought of him as a complete non-entity - the footballing equivalent of beige or a Rich Tea.

What have you got against RichTea?!

That's the thing, I don't have anything against Rich Tea. They are just remarkably unremarkable

Chris Gunter

by Royal_jimmy » 06 Jan 2016 20:23

Am I the only one who doesn't rate him? I was a bit underwhelmed when we first got him in the prem as we were linked with far better right backs. However as he was 22 when we signed him I thought he would improve but he has gone backwards during his time at the club.

He can't beat his man when he overlaps a winger, he can't cross and when he does he floats the ball tamely in the air which is so easy to defend. We have had nothing but misery during his time at the club being relegated easily and failing to reach the playoffs.

I say this summer get rid and get a right back who can cross and defend as I think he is very average.

Royal_jimmy he has gone backwards during his time at the club.

Drivel. He was so bad in his first season that he was replaced by Shaun Cummings and then Stephen Kelly. His crossing still needs improving, but he is now a solid defender, decent at getting forward and one of, if not the team's best athlete.

Yep. Bizarrely some people on this forum have an agenda against him, regardless of how he plays. But other than a shit season in the Premier league, he's pretty much a 7/10 player.

He's lightweight and wears his socks over his knees.

And for that reason I'm out.

They're called thigh highs, and Garath likes them.

He's an athlete and that's about it. Can run well between both boxes but when it comes to producing anything he's pretty hopeless at both ends of the pitch.

You can pretty much dismiss any chance we may have at scoring when he gets to an attacking position to cross or shoot.

Defensively he's ok but his inability to stop the opposition getting a cross in leaves a lot to be desired and it's amazing how the opposition don't target him more often in that regard.

His embarrassing dive against Wolves and the one against Brizzle have also blotted his copy book over the last couple of weeks.

Would prefer if he had some competition in the RB area. It might make him better and force him to have to fight for a place in the team rather than automatically being selected because there's no one else in his position.

Not sharing any of this Gunter love. A thoroughly underwhelmingly mediocre player who offers us little at either end of the pitch.

He's one of those players that never seems to have a bad game but never has an amazing game.

I always thought he was good when going forward, especially under Adkins. Since then he seem's to have lost all confidence in his attacking ability and instead of going past someone he prefers to just cut back inside for a simple pass or make an early cross.

Hopefully having McCleary back on the right hand side should give him a confidence boost.
