Your 4-3-3 formation?

by TBM » 14 Jul 2016 10:56

So we know Jaap wants to play a 4-3-3 formation, at least to start with....So with Swift just signed and Beerens looking close to signing too - what would be your line up? (granted we've not seen these players play together but from what you know/have seen on TV make a judgement)

For me

Jaakkola
Gunter McShane Cooper Obita
Swift Norwood Quinn
McCleary Rakels Beerens

------------------Al-Habsi
Gunter-McShane-Cooper-Obita
---------------Van den Berg
---------Norwood----Swift
McCleary----------------------Fosu
--------------Kermorgant

This is quite stressful.. I feel like we have a lot of players in some positions then none in others.. We must be looking to sell someone else in CM.

I think he might go for Williams instead of Swift in the middle three, then Swift in the front three and G Mac out. Also, JVDB might get in ahead of Norwood.

That's close to what I think Jaap will go for, but I'm not sure until we see everyone play and we get some more competitive friendlies in the bank.

I get the feeling the likes of Norwood, Gunter and G Mac may be getting moved on, Gunter and Norwood especially after impressive Euros.

I'd also take Rakels, Mendes and Samuel as the three strikers for next year. Rakels and Samuel are pretty dynamic and would suit the styles Jaap wants to play. You'd assume Mendes was too but I can't judge until I see him.

I forgot about Van den Berg - swap him for Quinn or Norwood in my team

Jaakkola

Gunter McShane Cooper/Campi Obita

Swift VDB Quinn

McCleary *new striker* Beerens

Can't claim to know a great deal about Beerens but by what a lot of people are saying he could be a fantastic signing.

Was at Boreham Wood on Saturday (yes i know it was only Boreham Wood) but Joey VDB looked very much like Jaap's player. Japp was constantly speaking to him throughout the half. All our moves started from him going forward.

Jaap also seems keen to want his players to press when we don't have the ball so that's where i think Quinn comes into it as he just runs & runs & runs.

Full pre season for G Mac & hopefully he can get back his form this season.

*Liam Kelly on the bench* (Got the feel last Saturday that Jaap is a massive fan of his)

Jaakola
Gunter McShane Cooper/Campi/Danzell Obita
Quinn Swift VDB
Rakels Mendes Beerens

Unsure on the CB because I haven't seen Danzell or Campi yet and may I just say Norwood and Williams should be worried

If we get Campi is sounds like he'd probably go straight into the side, so.

Jaakkola
Gunter McShane Campi Obita
Evans VDB Quinn
McCleary Kermorgant Beerens

Bench: Ali, Cooper/Gravenberch/Watson, Swift/Stacey/Fosu, Kelly/Barrett, Mendes, Rakels, Samuel

Assuming we lose Williams and Norwood. Otherwise Norwood over Evans and I guess Williams over Quinn, swap from subs Kelly for Evans or Quinn and Mendes or Swift for the other one, depending on the opposition.

Looks like a lot of players, but I can't tell if this looks like a team which is going for mid-table or relegation.

Seem to be lacking in full backs and striker options. CM/DM/wings GK and CB look full. If we don't get Campi, then one more CB would be nice, but not essential - would be ok with Dickie or Hyam as fourth choice.

Guess it depends if we have a squad of players that may be talented, or if Stam can gel them into a team.

4-3-3

Not sure about the selection yet though.

Al-Habsi
Gunter - McShane - Campi - Obita
Norwood - Van der Berg - Quinn
McCleary - Rakels - Swift

But hard to judge at this point whether the newbies are step ups or not. Mendes record and youtube clip really didn't impress me... whereas Swift seems a solid bet and Campi looks great, should we get him.

Al-Habsi, Gunter, McShane, Campi, Obita, Norwood, Van Den Berg, Swift, McCleary, Mendes, Beerens

Maybe swap in Samuel for Mendes at first and give him a go.

Continental teams don't play a rigid 4-3-3. With some more technical players in the side there'll be fluidity.

Of all the midfield players Norwood now seems the most at risk. Offers very little defensively. Nor is crossing consistant enough.

Jaakkola

Gunter McShane Campi Obita

Norwood Van der Bergh Swift or Quinn

McCleary Samuel Beerens or Swift

If Beerens signs, then him on the left wing and Swift at centre / left midfield. If no Beerens, then Quinn in midfield and Swift on the wing.

Norwood is the difficult player to accommodate, good player though he is. I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams, or even Kelly, get that spot.

Central striker is up for grabs; I'm starting with Samuel.

What!? Norwood consistently puts the tackles in and picks up a few interceptions too. If you're talking about set piece crossing fair enough. But I otherwise wouldn't expect a central midfielder to be putting many in.

Tackles from behind on many occasions. Gave away most free kicks last season in the entire squad. Many of them needlessly.

This but with Cooper, picking players we don't have is cheating.

Not sure why everyone is going for the Finn in goal. 12 games in kilmarnock doesn't convince me, surely he's just back up.
