Record Watch 2016-17

by Tony Le Mesmer » 04 Aug 2016 09:53

Time for annual monitoring of 2 proud club records.

13 wins from the start of the season
106 points in a football league season

Given that 14 wins in a row is the most any team has ever achieved at any time in English Professional football, I very much doubt the 13 wins from a season's start will ever topple.

As for 106, it will go, and maybe this year. A big Prem side getting relegated when they really shouldn't is always going to be the biggest threat.

What's the record for most posts until someone criticises our devotion to these two records?

Would have thought that Newcastle would be the ones to break it when they got relegated the first time. As they didn't, I think it will be safe for another year.

To be honest it wouldn't surprise me to see Newcastle do it this season seeing the complete and utter gulf in class between their squad and everyone else in the division plus a manager who will know what he is doing.

Of course there have been supposed "dead certs" before so who knows...

They hit 102 last time, and Leicester hit the same tally in 13/14, with Fulham hitting 101 in 1999. Adding in Sunderland's previous record of 105, there's only 5 teams who've gone over 100.

25/1 for them to break the record on Skybet.

I'm thinking the same. Their squad for this division is insane.

How many teams can still do this, anyone know?

72.

Maybe even 92, but that's unlikely.

Yes, 4 defeats, 10 draws, they would still walk the division

IN!

The 106 'record' is shared with Lincoln City who under the 2 points for a win system achieved an equivalent figure in 1975/76.

In 1946 Doncaster won 33 games, drew 6 and lost 3, giving 105 points under the current system. This was achieved in a 42 game season, giving a better points per game record over the course of the season than the 106 team.

In a season where half the male population in their 20's were either dead or injured, this probably gives Doncaster an unwanted record of having the most amount of deserters in their town. And 105 < 106.

you don't suddenly go from being utter dogshit and getting relegated to walking a division like the championship right from the off.
imo
