MATCHWATCH : Rotherham United (a) sponsored by Dick Habbin

by Sutekh » 21 Oct 2016 17:41

For the third time in a month or so Reading will be facing a team with a new manager. Rotherham having relieved Alan Stubbs of his duties on Wednesday (he only lasted 14 games) and quickly naming his successor as former Millwall and Wolves boss Kenny Jackett. So god knows what there will be to expect in this game other than a team up for impressing their new manager. Let's hope Reading can meet this challenge successfully.

On the playing side Rotherham have doubts over Dael Fry, Kelvin Wilson (calf) and Tom Adeyemi.

Reading are expected to still be missing Paul McShane, Stephen Quinn and Joseph Mendes while Jake Cooper and Yakou Meite could conceivably be on the bench but unlikely.

Rotherham has been a bit of a miserable place for Reading in the last 5 visits with only 2 draws to show for any sort of return. The last win for Reading there was way back in 2000 when Royals won 3-1 at the old ground - Millmoor - thanks to Butler, Cureton and McIntyre.

Full record at their place is P20, W4, D7, L9, F23, A34.

Rotherham are on a run of 6 straight defeats so I think we can all guess the likely outcome of the game from that one fact alone.

Danny Ward has bagged 9 goals though so far so they can't be too bad going forward. Wonder when was the last time a Reading player got near 9 goals in the league?

Tomorrow's match official will be Newcastle's Scott Duncan (who has already officiated at Rotherham this season in the 2-2 opening day draw with Wolves - and Wolves had a player sent off).

Previous games with Mr Duncan

12 Apr 2016 > Middlesbrough 2-1 Reading
4 Apr 2015 > Reading 1-1 Cardiff City

Reading starting XI vs Rotherham: Al-Habsi, Gunter (c), Obita, L.Moore, Van den Berg, Kelly, Swift, Williams, Beerens, McCleary, Kermorgant.
Reading subs vs Rotherham: S.Moore, McShane, Watson, Gravenberch, Blackett, Evans, Samuel.

Kelly, nice. Obita back in as well.

Well 10 minutes gone and Reading - after the first 30 seconds - have been completely outplayed by a team bottom of the table suffering from 6 successive league defeats.

Kelly off after 30 minutes for McShane. Berg has moved into midfield.

genome Why?

Good question. Presume Tim will put that to Jaap after the game. Possible reason suggested was a lack of height between Berg and Moore as Ward and Blackstock were causing huge problems for the defence.

Our away support is embarrassing. No atmosphere here at all. What's the point in any of you going to away games if you don't get behind the team. Tried getting an atmosphere going a few times and no one has bothered

No wonder why we rarely win away from home.

FWIW I thought Kelly looked one of the better players. He was really causing issues and lots of dangerous runs.

Where is the everyone? Are you all in Rotherham?

Truly awful cr@p from a Reading team being battered by a team with no points in 6 and to top it all McCleary hits a dreadfully weak penalty right down the middle of the goal.

Dont worry though we've got 80% possession to show for our 1 lacklustre penalty on target while they have about 6/7 shots on target.
