Team for Arsenal (a)

by genome » 24 Oct 2016 12:00

I know this won't happen, but I'd like to see 3 at the back for this one, especially with no Gunter (think it might be too much for Watson). If we do stick with a 4-3-3 I know Moore can play right-back and potentially Cooper or JVDB can slot in.

I'd like to see:

-----------------------Al-Habsi--------------------
----------Moore-----JVDB---McShane-------
McCleary----------------------------------Obita
-------------------------Evans---------------------
-----------------Swift-------Williams-----------
-------------Kermorgant----Samuel---------

Probable #AFC XI v #ReadingFC: Martinez; Jenkinson, Holding, Gabriel, Gibbs; Ox, Elneny; Reine-Adelaide, Iwobi, Lucas; Giroud (or M-Niles)

Guesswork really given no one seems to know the fitness of a few players

Jaakkola, Harriot, Quinn and Mendes were supposedly injured at the weekend, whilst Cooper and Meite were playing for the U23s

Gunter obviously suspended, although getReading seems to think Kelly will get another go

If the above are all ruled out, I'd go with

Al-Habsi
Watson
McShane
Moore
Obita
VDB
Kelly
Swift
McCleary
Beerens
Samuel

Moore, Blackett, Gravenberch, Evans, Williams, Kermorgant (we only ever pick six subs in this competition anyway)

No doubt Williams will get picked though, even if I want to give him the Liam Kelly treatment after 20 minutes of every match he plays. Suppose we could do with his 'energy' against someone like Arsenal

getreading Jaap Stam has hinted he will make changes ahead of Reading’s trip to Arsenal on Tuesday.

Reading’s boss has used the EFL Cup as a chance to utilise his squad this season, handing starts to players who have not played much football in the league.

And Stam appears to be ready to continue with that philosophy - despite the magnitude of the tie at Emirates Stadium.

He said:

Everybody wants to be involved in these games.
But you’ve got to be realistic, we’ve got a lot of league games as well.
So we will make a couple of changes again.

Just for the record Arsenal will play Gibbs, Jenkinson, Holding and Gabriel at the back according to CW.
