CountryRoyal
LoyalRoyal22 Why no press conference ? Very eager to hear about there plans for the club. Seems a little strange if you compare it to our previous ones.

Little matter of the playoff final to attend to.

Everything will be announced and sorted out in due time - no point convoluting things which such a big game at steak.

Agreed there are more pressing things to talk about and plan this week. But in that case why announce it in the middle of the play off semi final? A brief statement from the owners might be appreciated by fans who, lets face it, don't know what to do with themselves for the next few days.

I reckon the announcement was made because that's when (coincidentally) the deal was complete. It couldn't have been made earlier and it would have been perverse to just not bother to tell anyone.
Not sure what statement anyone wants beyond the one that has been made. We have two very different possibilities for next season and until we know which division we are in any statement could at best be very non specific. In many ways losing on Monday will lead to the most interesting position. Do they intend to offer Stam an extension, what is the transfer intention, will Williams be staying, how quickly will the training ground be completed etcetc etc

To be honest, they've made their statement. I don't want to hear constant Tony Fernandes style updates in everything that is going on

They've already shown they have some cash to spend, they can't ask for a better management team already in place which they will no doubt try to tie down to longer deals and I'm personally pleased they don't want to make it 'all about them' in the week before a play off final

Not asking for anything too in depth, just an interview/some PR in the local media with them both just to give us their take on things, introduce themselves, find out how they see Reading, future plans etc. so a relationship can start to be built up with media and fans.

Don't really want total silence and a load of unnecessary rumours starting up about how they're never here, never say anything and perhaps don't care etc.

No need. Much more important things to worry about this week. They can do all that once they know what division we'll be in.

This week of all weeks it's about the players and coaching staff, not the owners.

If they muscled in then that would of brought more negative press onto them etc.

From where we were 18 months ago / 12 months ago we are in an amazing position. Get behind the team this week, nothing less and those frothing at the mouth wanting to know bank balances and what type of cotton towels they will be using at the training ground etc can have all summer to chew over the details.

Absolutely agree. Would want to see something at some point during the close season once the play off story is all over one way or another.

They could write a dissertation and upload a three hour film and there'd still be people complaining about what they said, what they hadn't said and the week after that there was radio silence.

I mean what is there to say? They want us to play in the PL.
They think we're a good investment.
That's it.

EP and Chronic yesterday reported that £60 million had been "loaned" to the club by the Chinese owners. I would presume that that is in addition to whatever sum they paid for controlling interest.

Can someone remind me what the role/remit of the clubs Directors is?

This seems to have changed and includes the majority shareholders plus howe and madejski (non shareholders)

Only one of the Thai consortium is named as a Director.

Thanks

The role of the directors is to run the club, and be legally responsible for it being done correctly isn't it ?
Are you surprised that non shareholders are on the board ? It's the same as it was under SJM where half the directors were not shareholders,
Not sure I entirely understand your point, in most companies not all shareholders are directors, and there is no reason why directors need to be shareholders.

That's about right. The shareholders now comprise the two Chinese bods plus the remaining Thai(s) i.e. Dai and his sister plus Tiger. Not sure if Pairoj is still involved or not.

On the director's front you would add Nigel Howe and Brian Tevreden to the above. Finally there is John Madejski in his non-executive "figurehead" role of life president/chairman.

Thanks, having been a company director for a small agency, I assumed it was the same, but wasn't sure with football being football.

Seems like only 1 of the Thai consortium is on the new board ( check out the details on the new website) - the one with half of the 25% share held by the consortium (don't think it is Tiger)

So would SJM be getting a wage for being a Director?

We have no idea on what basis SJM is involved. He might be getting some kind of payment but that's down to the agreement between him and the club. There's no law that says he has to be paid, although you'd suspect there may be some kind of reward attached. He may get a megastore voucher for instance....

The directors are appointed by the shareholders to run the club, some shareholders want to be hands on, others want a representative, they may also appoint experts who have experience in that industry etc etc.
