Reading 5-a-side team

by PistolPete » 04 Jan 2017 23:15

It struck me tonight watching Chelsea (lose) that they'd have one hell of a 5-a-side team with Kante or Matic playing along side Hazard, Pedro and Costa. So, who would make your Reading and all time Reading 5-a-side team?

I'm going for (current):

Al Habsi, McShane, Swift, Meite and Samuel

All time:

Federici, Shorey, Sigurdsson, Sidwell and Forster

I've looked at your suggestions and personally would only make a few changes :D

Current:

Bond, Moore, Swift, Kelly and Samuel

All time:

Federici, Shorey, Sigurdsson, Igoe and Forster

All about the pace & low centre of gravity

I look for technical players and fitness in 5-a-side players, with one bloke who doesn't do much running but is technically excellent.

Jaakkola, Moore, Gunter, Swift, Kermorgant

Hislop, Moore, Bridge, Kebe, Drenthe

Death or Francis in goal for the all time side surely?

As for the current side,

Al Habsie, Swift, Kelly, Beerens, Quinn

All time - Hahnemman, Bikey, Sonko, Parky, Kitson...... tactics will be to intimidate the opposition & muscle the ball off them.

Do Sky still run the 6 a side masters tournament for retired ex-players to represent their clubs?

Wikipedia Masters Football is a six-a-side indoor football competition in the United Kingdom, where players over the age of 35 are chosen by the Masters Football Selection Committee to represent a senior club for which they played. Regional heats are held, and the winners of each go forward to a national rosengard competition. Events are contested over the course of a single evening (usually on Saturdays or Sundays), with games played in two halves of eight minutes each. The pitch is 60 m (200 ft) by 30 m (98 ft) (the size of an international ice hockey rink), and there is no offside rule. Matches are televised live on the UK subscription channel Sky Sports.

Have we had a Reading team take part?

Sky don't have it on although they may still run it off TV. One of the guys from the club that was on the Tilehurst End podcast a few weeks back used to work for them and said they contemplated a Reading team but for various reasons it didn't work

Traditional five-a-side:
Al-Habsi, Moore, Kelly, Quinn, Rakels
or
Federici, Bikey, Sidwell, Kebe, Long

Futsal:
S. Moore, L. Moore, Kelly, Swift, Rakels
or
Federici, Carrico, Matejovsky, Gylfi, Tanner

Without getting too nerdy, I think five-a-side is about defending and attacking as a team and intensity. The most important thing is that anyone can do anything as opportunity arises. Futsal is more technical.

Surely Mick Gooding would get a game. Everything you want in a 5-a-side player.

IIRC he used to play for the Wolves Masters 5-a-side team when it used to be televised.

I reckon my team of Quinn J, Streete, Hurlock, van den Berg, Whitehurst would have your lot easily !
