Surely the current owners wouldn't be offering contracts out on terms that McCleary would likely accept at this stage in his career?
Maybe developments of less uncertainty about the takeover behind closed doors?

You could argue that it is low risk for them.
If the takeover goes through it's not their problem.
If it doesn't they have an asset with a much higher market value than if his contract had run down.
Possibly the biggest positive is that McCleary signed up. Financially I suspect he could have got a better deal by moving now or in the summer.
