Corner Takers

by bracksroyal10 » 23 Feb 2017 16:37

Does anyone know the logic behind allowing G-Mac to take corners given that he is a big body that would be useful in the box potentially?

Not too sure if anyone else has clocked on to this but rather than fizz the ball into the box for our target men to attack like Kelly, its becoming a common theme where he seems to float the ball up in the air with no pace making it an easy corner to defend and also wasting a decent opportunity when attacking.

I can't recall us scoring/creating many chances from any of those kind of deliveries so failing to understand why Stam persists with him. Its quite evident Kelly should be on all corners given his height and delivery quality.

Alternatively John Swift offers the quality delivery that we need as a plan B.

Generally most of Reading's dead ball plays are poor. Even penalties are pretty rubbish. Really need to work on it in training and get some consistency together.

We let McCleary take a few to lull them into a false sense of security?

Has McCleary ever scored a header?

Yes he has, funnily enough from Kermogant's missed penalty!

I'd have McCleary in the box purely because he is evidently a good finisher, have Kelly on corners and free kicks, he's not a big presence in the box or has shown particularly notable finishing but is known for his set piece delivery.

I can't really think of anyone else who has been as consistent on free kicks/deliveries into the box since Nicky Shorey/Gylfi left the club.

Swift seemed to be putting in a few dangerous balls at the start of the season so I don't understand why he is no longer taking corners/free kicks.

Harte was good. The Obita McAnuff combo got good results, with highly variable quality admittedly.

You think that's bad... I forgot one of the 106ers in some name all the players to have appeared for us since we got promoted quiz.

For shame.
