Royalwaster Most fans would accept the tactics if we won most games ... it's the combination of losing and watching such a boring style that's untenable.

yeah exactly this.

Thing is, last time he was on the edge of the crowd turning (Forest H) he changed the style for the better, and we picked up 1 loss in 8, and also stuffed Derby who are now flying. Then we completely regressed again.

It's been a bit of a strange season.

Would agree with this. I was really impressed with the tempo against Forest and against Derby away. When you play the short passing game at speed it can kill the opposition and create so much space and that is exactly what we did that night. Why on Earth would Stam and the players revert back to type when we had seemingly turned a corner? It is strange.

Tbf though, and this was picked up at the time, Forest played right into our hands by pushing up and leaving space behind the full backs. Sounds like Derby did similar and we were able to get the early goal in both, which completely changes the dynamic

A lot of us said at the time that we should see how it works when a team sits back - and I think we’ve seen Stam has little strategy for that

Sounds like we played ok at Sunderland, but Barnsley was pretty painful despite the score against a woeful team

There have been a number of patches in games when we've looked quite tidy at 0-0 (Wolves, Hull, Boro, even Brum for example) but as soon as the oppo score, and then sit back, we seem stumped

Agree with the lack of plan B, it's Stam's biggest crime IMO. Even last season when we were winning games on a regular basis we got caught out not having another way of playing.
