To be our third choice centre back, and replace McShane in the long term. But he's been injured, and since Blackett has been playing pretty well, there's no need to rush him back.

Next question :|

We thought he'd be a really good medium term option and haven't been able to get as much immediate use out of him as we'd like because of injury, fitness and match practice issues? Maybe?

How can you pass judgement on a player who has been injured most of the time since he joined? Seems a tad unfair.

He has not judged him. He merely asked a question and awaits your answers.

I haven't got a clue why Stam signed him.

You have no clue? Why Stam, a former world class CB, would sign a 24 y/o CB, who was once thought to be one of the best youth prospects in European football?

Yeah. I don't know. I'm not judging Stam. I'm just saying that I don't know anything about Tiago so I wouldn't know the answer to the original question. I do trust Stam's judgement though. If Stam thinks it's right then that is all that matters. I ain't got a scooby doo.

Because Stam and or Tevreden wanted to sign him basically

CB situation is interesting going into the last couple of games. Wonder if he'll bring McShane back in

CB situation is going to be interesting in general going forward. As has been pointed out numerous times on other threads we have let in far too many goals. Personally I would chalk a lot of that up to the time it took for the team to fully adjust to a new system, particularly the amount of time our defenders have had to be in possession.

McShane and Moore are both quality at Championship level whilst Blackett and Ilori both have great potential so it will be interesting to see whether Stam sticks or twists (regardless of where we are next season)

Ilori will be a great player if he can avoid injury. He was very good away at Derby so clearly he has some ability. Just hope he doesn't end up like Carrico.

What was wrong with Carrico? He won the Europe league three times.

Don't agree tbh .. Up to Christmas should have been more than enough time for the team / defence to adjust to a new system, since then we have continued to leak goals, conceding 36 in 22 games !

Any idea what the other top 7 teams have conceded since Xmas?

Nothing wrong with him. I mean more in that how we under-utilised someone who went on to be a really good player for a different club.

Seem to remember Stam saying that he has been a long standing admirer of Ilori because he's a ball playing centre back who reads the game well but he never seriously thought he'd be available.

Think we will see alot more of him next season, have enough options at present to not need to resort to putting him in the team.
