How many RFC pitch invasions have you taken part in?

by Winston Biscuit » 16 May 2017 14:37

sketchy memory but I am going with:

Home to Brighton 1994
Home play off Vs Tranmere 1995
Last ever match at Elm Park
Home play off vs Wigan 2001
Title win 05/06
Title win 11/12
Thinking we had made the play offs 13/14

All of those with the exception of the last. shame on you!

Actually, I was at the Wigan play off game but don't remember going on the pitch.

Famous one at EP that was a protest started by one person (female ) running on from the Tilehurst end and sitting on her own in the centre circle before everyone else piled on. Was it a Branfoot era one ?

I was also on the pitch when Robin Friday scored.

Loads. All the celebration ones since about 1979 and also the aftermath of the debacles v Notts Co in '89, Port Vale in '98 etc. Sure there's probably more as well.

Do you think the fans invaded the pitch to celebrate promotion in 1926 or just politely applauded and not realise the club had been promoted until the local press mentioned it a week or two later?

Many would have previously invaded France, Belgium and Germany so I would suspect wandering on to the Elm Park pitch would have seemed a little tame.

The WIgan game was my only one that wasn't a mass invasion. Was right down in the corner by Y26, absolutely hammered, winner goes in and a handful of us were on the pitch, Phil Whitehead(?) told us to GTF off. another pitch invasion at full time though.

I think I was in the Upper West that game so it wasn't an option.

Never. I'm the stick in the mud that tuts and quietly wishes he was less of a rule conformist and could just join in with the fun.

Wasn't there one after Bradford in the cup? I remember being a sourpuss then too.

Fairly sure that was the Quinn/Gooding era when we lost 6-1 to Crystal Palace.

Yes there was, for which we got fined. Promotion merits a pitch invasion. Winning the league merits a pitch invasion. Cup win. That's it.

Assuming we somehow win tonight are we expecting a pitch invasion? Is that what this thread is alluding to?

Only the last game at Elm Park.

Was with people it wouldn't have gone down well with v Wigan.

Missed both PL promotion / title games.

Thought the 7th invasion was just a bit silly. That's before we knew we weren't 6th.

Thought the Bradford one was stupid and tasteless.

The best one was the one against Palace when Uri Geller tried hypnotizing everyone

Did the pitch invasion in 06, was at the game in 12 but didn't join in and definitely didn't join in for the 7th position, I thought it was hilarious when they flashed the Brighton score on the big screen, you know after the whole realisation we'd finished 7th.

I'm not a pitch invasion snob. At some county cricket games you can just go for a stroll on the pitch after the match, or even during tea or whatever.
Just let people on the bloody turf if they want to go on.

Promotion in '86, immortalised on the wall by hospitality, but my chance of fame is ruined by a couple of my school chums being on shoulders but I was the carrier so am out of shot

What's the best pitch invasion you've been involved in, Green?
