CONFIMRED - Tariqe Fosu to Charlton

Slightly disappointed by this one. Felt he deserved a run in the first-team, but I guess we need to thin out the winger department a bit.

Disappointing. Good move for him if he's not going to get a sniff here. Hopefully we've got a good sell on clause.

I remember him looking outrageously good against Derby. Thought he would end up getting a chance the next season but it never materialised. Same with Josh Barrett after his performance against Preston.

Was he out of contract?

Yes he was out of contract, however as we offered him a new one and he is under 24 the club are entitled to a compensation fee either agreed between the clubs or a tribunal

Strange how these things come around again. last year Reading brought Charlton Academy winger Callum Harriott to the club....

Not too disappointed by this. Derby he was fantastic, but it was more that they weren't prepared for him. He came across very one footed and a total one trick pony (it worked again and again, but would have needed to mix it up to have success at our level - only once did he do anything different). Also seems quite a selfish player, great for driving play forward, not so good for linking play up. Always wanted to do everything alone.

I did wonder post Derby if he bought into his own hype a bit, was interesting how he disappeared out on loan after, almost as if he needed bringing down a peg or two - could see that of him quite easily.

Thought it was weird when we signed Harriott in as they seem similar players in some ways, although I reckon Harriott is a better member to have in the squad. Both can appear worldbeaters on their day and disappear the next, if anything the benchmark average is probably a little higher for Harriott at present (looking at Fosu's loans).

Not disappointed by this at all in honesty. Hope it works out well for him. We know from his loans that he's a very very good league two player, should slot in nicely in league one and there's plenty of space there to progress. I don't think the potential is there to see him a lower/mid Prem player, although you never know. Plenty of scope as he matures to become a good League One/Championship regular.

Remember that Kwesi Appiah looked great against Derby that day too, now he's at AFC Wimbledon. Is it possible Derby were just shite in that game? They had been in quite indifferent form for a while at that point.

Yeah, it's a good point. I guess the argument is, one excellent performance deserves another shot and it would've been good to see him start a couple of games the following season to see what he's about. I guess the management saw enough in training.

Let's hope this is not Reading FC's Antonio moment mk2.

All the best Tariqe.

Bags of talent, question marks over his application and work rate for me. We currently play two shapes, one doesn't involve wingers or wide forwards and from what I understood he didn't follow up his Derby performance by impressing much on loan / in the U21s.

Wish him all the best, and hopefully see people complaining about this being Reading's worst ever transfer decision in the future, because that'll mean he'll have taken his licks and really kicked on.

Really good at a small number of things.

imo he deserved to get the game time that Harriott, Popa, and Meite got. Harriott is definitely a better player though so I guess this is for the best.

If we keep using 5-3-2 then there isn't a space for Fosu anyway, although a big part of me wishes we had him in the U23s.

As long as we keep Tariq Royal as a supporter then I am ok with losing Fosu.

Confused. I though it was just the 'r' in confirmed that got moved.

*checks Hobnob codex* Whilst the r is the more traditional move, both are acceptable if you don't mind upsetting the purists.
