winchester_royal The transfer fees shouldn't make too much of an impact as this will just sit on the balance sheet and be amortised over the life of the contact.

E.G. we sign Darlow for £5m on a 5 year contract, we'll be incurring a 'cost' for accounting purposes of only £1m (£5m over 5 years) per year.

It's the wages that are a killer. For any decent player you're looking at £30k a week min. And that's before bonuses, signing on fees, agent fees etc. So let's say that averages out at £40k a week. You're then looking at an annual cost of £2.1m for just one player.

It's crazy money. And just one of these signings could easily push us over the edge of FFP regs.

Surely we aren't signing players on £30k a week in the championship.

If you're getting a player who's worth over £5m you probably will be.

Apparently Assombalonga is on 60k a week over at Boro...

Rubbish 60K?
Williams was the last of the big earners apparently and usually RFC don't spend loads on players its usually free. I don't
think RFC get the "Marquee" players as we can cannot compete with other clubs.

I would suspect that both Quinn and McShane, who both turned down contracts from a relegated club are on somewhere near 30k week

Undisclosed but appears to be around 500k. Reasonable fee.

Samuel attended Southwark Park Primary School between 2003-2007. In 2007, he took part in the school's 'Alternative Yo-Yo' competition to raise money for Comic Relief, finishing runner up after answering every question that week at school with the answer 'yo', reaching a total of 83. Samuel's class raised a total of £34.80 and were thanked in a school assembly by a local politician who joined the class on stage in a group 'Yo!'.
Samuel is also an avid fan of children's entertainers the Chuckle Brothers, having seen the pair live a record 76 times over the past 7 years. In 2016 he commented in a match day programme "I can't help it, I bloody love those 2 guys. To relax after a hard days training I turn the lights out, close the curtains and settle down to a marathon of Chucklevision...sexy no?"

WTF

Yeah then we spend 3 million on a striker who has a much worse goal rate than Samuel

I doubt Samuel spent much time on the wing in his 50 odd appearances.

I get your point but, again, we don't know the fee (I doubt the 3 million figure but if true is poor business until hindsight proves me wrong) and we don't know what position Bodvarsson will play.

Comparing a 24 year old striker who has played 50 (ish) Games with a 25 year old international striker who has played 250+ games is stupidity in the extreme.

Samuel has been viewed by Stam and his staff for enough time for them to make their minds up on the player. They decided he wasn't good enough. I trust them. 500k for a player we don't want, is 24 and has barely played in his senior career is good business.

Based on what I saw of him at Gillingham and what he did for us, can't say I'm surprised that Samuel has gone to a L1 club.
